I didn't even go play it. NTSC-J gave it a meh. Hopefully it gets a little more intense before it goes into production. If they have an autobomb I'm going to carry a cab up to Cave's office and sodomize the receptionist with it.

this is 2010 buddy, it autobombs and autoscores, what you get for your Y100 is a flashy graphics show and some ass-rock tunes... controls consist of a dinnerplate and making fartsounds with your mouth as you drive along.

Why, Cave, WHY? Didn't you see SH3 wasn't enough for your games? Oh man, this is ridiculous. I hope they've at least upped the amount of (V)RAM somehow.

whats wrong with SH3 (lo-res discussion aside)? Only game i know of that suffers on it is DFK-BL when it goes absoluteley apeshit on the 5th level which (while cool) is not a good way to have a full game anyways.

nothing showed yet of katana is even suggesting there will be an undodgeable neon-porridge splashing across the screen.. it looks more like a progear on steroids which should suit sh3 just fine i think.

Futari BL God mode: lots of slowdown during bullet canceling, stuttering. I see a lot of people complaining about it.
DS MBL: lots of slowdown on high rank.
DFK 1.5: lots of slowdown pretty much everywhere.
DFK BL: horrible slowdown to the point of severe glitching.

These were all the most recent games released on SH3. I have no doubt that if Cave even remain on this level of graphics and sprite count in their newer games the hardware will choke all the same. There's no reason it won't because they've already hit the ceiling. The should have moved on to at least SH4 years ago, and you would still have 240p and all that stuff, except with more controllable slowdown — where and how it's needed. Beside the fact that they would be able to do even better graphics on it if they wanted.

Personally I love it when games this hardcore choke on the amount of bullets on screen, it doesn't only give you a brief respite from the speed but it also signifies the utter madness of what's going on.

A danmaku shmup at full speed throughout would be too plain jane for me. :)

the slowdown is not a problem in either of those and doesnt affect actual gameplay in any negative way, and ive never seen anyone complain about slowdown on futari BL PCB, only the xbox360 version.

DFK BL can get bad when provoked as previously mentioned with the player sprite dissapearing.. but akai katana doesnt come close in spritecount in either of the vids ive seen..

Did you pick it up sven? Curious if we'll have any impressions either here or Cave-STG.

Fujita, Excellent.com, arcade-game-sales and Neoamusement are some examples of shops that might have this game.

Hopefully, if there is anything wrong with the game, they can fix it with a 1.5 or a BL.

AK wil have a revision in the next months, you'll see. It is a matter of time that bugs show up.
Now lets make a few bets, when will it be ported for Xbox 360? :D

So how many stages and loops??? I think that we'll have to wait a bit if we want to se a lot more gameplay.

Not entirely sure, but looks like we all might be in luck. Make sure someone goes with you who can take pictures, GP.

It's not so much the slowdown as it is the stutter. Slowdown is awesome and manageable. It makes like happy. Stuttering is cruel and causes many unnecessary deaths.

I played a bit of this earlier today, seemed pretty good but didn't have much time to play it and I didn't really understand the game mechanics that well. Autobomb seems to be in the game, but doesn't go off all the time so I'm not sure what triggers it.

The autobomb only applies on your last life, and takes all your bombs away. Better than the DFK style.

That sounds fairly fair. Almost like having just one more life, but without the safety net of a bomb reload.

Hopefully that's an option you can switch off once they get round to porting it. Still seems candy-ass to me.

Thanks oxtsu for that cool informative nugget about Cave's latest arcade shmup PCB offering being a SH-3 powered beast. Alas, still no stereo output for it either...Cave could've easily implemented stereo output to it's signature SH-3 single layer PCB setup. Oh well...mono output is alright but stereo is miles better (especially if one has a stereo equipped candy cab). Of course, Cave knows how milk it's latest arcade shmup offerings with the obligatory Akai Katana stereo OST CD coming along down the pipeline. It's a given.

Will any cool indy arcades in the USA be getting their PCB kit of AK anytime soon?
