Anyone around in Tokyo?

Post by Akira »

Hey people,

I'll be going to Tokyo in September, from the 3rd to the 12th.
I will be playing here: http://tokyo.blipfestival.org/ with my audiovisual project, 8GB
I recommend you to come :)

It's my first time in Tokyo and I would love a helping hand around the city!
I want to go to some arcades, and also maybe find some stuff to bring back (specifically, MSX and X6800 material or a computer).

Any recommendations would be welcome and if someone wants to meet up hit me an email.
Would be cool to see you at the gig, too, it's gonna be fun.

Cheers!

Pretty cool music, Akira. Sounds like it's gonna be an event to remember with the floor thumping 'n' pumping to the groove. I like that cool Designer's Republic-nod with the graphical aestethics on that record website. Do you have any plans to sell your upcoming music CD soon?

Yeah, Akihabara district would be the logical choice to visit for the cool retro gaming shops. There are bound to be some retro gaming goodies to be found, albeit quite pricey indeed. The Japanese game centers are legendary...them American arcades can't compare in terms of what's available to play. It's the "latest and greatest" as usual.

Hi dude! Glad you like the music.
You can get stuff for free at www.8bitpeoples.com -> http://www.8bitpeoples.com/discography/8BP093
and some other stuff for free around, gotta check the myspace (and update the website :P)
The record on that page is available through Retinascan, however it's a very poor quality edition by them, i will make my own, better edition soon and keep you posted. And I just designed a t-shirt for 8bitpeoples,available july 2010

REgarding Tokyo, I know the hotspots and I am already drooling in anticipation, haha! I been recommended to look beforehand for purchase on Yahoo Auctions through a proxy bidder and i am trying to do that, I think I will bag a "junk" X68000 to fix (30/50 us dollars!)

If anybody doens't mind joining for a drink or something I'll be delighted! Otherwise I'll wander around aimlessly. I doubt I'll get mugged ;p

Thanks for the cool links, Akira. Will be sure to check them out.

Walking down the sidewalks of Japan is very safe. I didn't have to worry about getting mugged or fear for my life...unlike in some of the bigger cities like San Francisco and the like. Plus the 24-hour convienence stores like 7-Eleven, Sunkist, Circle K are cool to visit to stock up on the usual goodies + the ability to buy the latest games at anytime is another plus.

Just trying to find Japanese Mountain Dew soda drink...that is extremely very hard to come by. I was only able to find it twice during my two week stay in both the small 150ml sized and regular 300ml sized cans. I had no problem finding the bigger 500ml sized Japanese Pepsi and Coke soda cans to quench my thirst. And even Pocari Sweat energy drink is worth trying out just for the novelity factor alone. ^_~

Hey Akira!

I will be in Tokyo from September 4th to the 20th, going to TGS 2010. I was looking for people to meet exactly for the same reasons as you! If we could meet up and go game hunting and to the arcades!

I have been there before in 2008 so I know the place a little!

Let me know,

Oh this was asked before and I couldn't respond.

I have released my previous and mostly unknown record, Red October, as donationware on Bandcamp
http://8gbs.bandcamp.com
Your purchase helps me get to Tokyo!
I also have made a limited edition run of t-shirts.

8GB's design "ЕЛИТА" is a work inspired by the codes and symbolism of the Russian mafia and their graphic representation as tattoos, widely seen in jails all over Russia. Mixing the religious imprint of the tattoos with the urban attitude of graffiti, this piece evokes the image of an entity of machine origin, part of the most private elite in Russia. With 7 convictions for crimes against humanity and highly regarded among its peers, it proudly shows its strong beliefs and principles based on humble roots, as well as its peculiar faith as a thinking machine.

I'd pay money for a 24/96 WAVs (no not resampled)... if that makes any sense! ;)

WAV file format of your release, where the music is mastered at 24 bit/96kHz sampling (24 bit instead of 16 bit audio).

For example:
http://www.howtodestroyangels.com/store/
...
Hi-Def EP Upgrade
•Download the EP in your choice of lossless audio, including FLAC, Apple Lossless and 24-bit, 44.1 kHz WAV.
•Includes the music video for "The Space in Between" in 1080p and 480p.
$2.00 USD
Even Autechre is doing this:
http://bleep.com/index.php?releaseid=23 ... se_details
...
- Your choice of 16bit / 44.1kHz or 24bit / 44.1kHz WAV version of the album
(**** PLEASE NOTE, THERE MAY BE COMPATIBILITY ISSUES WITH THE 24 BIT WAVs. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR MORE INFORMATION)
I see you have FLAC as an option... purchasing anyways... :P I'm just trying to build a library of 24 bit audio, as it provides more enjoyable playback.

Update:
The decoded 16/44 FLACs sound nice! ;)

Hey guys,

Sorry I was not able to make it to the festival, I stayed in Korea longer than expected because of some Starcraft tournaments.

I am currently in Tokyo since yesterday... anyone want to join up for some game hunting or whatever?

Let me know,
