Speaking of metal... i'm looking for new music.

What do you guys think of Arch Enemy? I've listened to about 5 of thier songs and i like what i hear. I didn't even realize it was a girl until i went to thier official site. That's crazy. I hope they don't use that as a gimmick though... It doesn't apear so since all their albums actually have art on teh cover instead of pictures of some metal chick.

Also - Epoch of Unlight seems like they might be cool. I only have listened to 'Aberrant Shadows' though.

It would really suck to go buy an Arch Enemy album and then see some little girl walk out of Hot Topic wearing one of thier shirts. lol That would just ruin it...

Yes, Arch Enemy are indeed a very awesome band and very, very good live. I had a hard time trying to convince my friends it wasn't a dude on vocals.

I hate to sound like a cheauvenist - (i know i didn't spell that right) - but i'm a little edgy about buying a cd from a metal band with a female lead. Horrible memories of Kittie come flashing back to me when i think about it. (shudder)

People won't laugh at you for buying an Arch Enemy cd like they would if you were to buy some Kittie stuff because they are genuinely very good. They dont rely on having a female lead to sell records.

The girl from Thorr's Hammer is many times the vocalist the chick from Arch Enemy is. She's better looking too.

all sick. grindy screamo. daughters/as the sun sets(they share members) have some of the sickest drums i've ever heard. daughters is the tightest live band i've ever seen which is amazing considering the music that they play. jerome's dream just put out a discography this year that i just picked up tonight and it's amazing. the first 8 songs are off of there "full length"(only 10 mins of music) and suck because the singer changed his style, but the rest of the discography is absolutely amazing.

my favorite metal bands are opeth and in flames, and my favorite metal album is easily master of puppets. yeah, it's a safe choice, but i seriously think that it's the most perfect metal album ever recorded. period.

I'm lovin' Arch Enemy so far. What usually draws me in to a band is the guitar. If it has powerful, energetic guitar like Children of Bodom then i'll probably like it - unless it's backed by whiney nut-pinched vocalists like Dream Theater. Ugh...

I'll check out Sonata Arctica now.

Ok - so i checked out In Flames by ramdomly downloading alot of thier songs. After a couple nights at the ole' Chevron listening to them i was able to easily tell that something had happened.

I was like "Wtf? Half these songs are awesome whereas the other half is an absolute nu-metal crap attack!" Apparently - this is another case of a band getting slightly popular and then fucking over all the fans by dumbing themselves down into radio music. It also sounds like the guitarists got fed up at some point and ran off.

This is exactly the reason why i was afraid to listen to Arch Enemy when i first found out about them. Luckily it seems that they've been able to do more than just keep thier integrity even through newfound popularity.

So am i right about In Flames?

Yeah, In Flames used to be good 10 years ago o so - I know I used to listen to their 2 or 3 first records - then it all went downwards... their newest stuff I don't even know - only that the singer-guy has an huuuge Tompa/At the Gates - envy going on... he tries so hard to be the instable, hardcore-psycotic-guy look, that has the "leave me alone - I'm so damaged inside"-look, fucking hate that...

Yeah - he saturates the vocals with that 'I'm so hurt' attitude that purveys most music nowdays. Since when did being a pussy become metal? I always assumed that you couldn't be a pussy and be metal at the same time. I guess that's why it sounds like radio-crap-rock.

Carcass's 'Heartwork' is a good LP but 'Necrotism: descanting the insalubrious' was better IMO. Its the one directly before 'Heartwork' and its a bit more 'death' than 'metal'-a little less mainstream, if that is'nt stretching the definition of a Carcass LP too far! 'Symphonies of sickness' is good too but its showing its age a bit now. The mix sounds like sludge and i don't think it was intentional!

Do yourself a favor and check out "City" by Strapping Young Lad....

The first 5 songs have enough sonic power to peel the paint off your house!

Can't disagree with Necroticism. I've been listening mostly to Symphonies of Sickness lately and it makes Heartwork sound a little soft around the edges, but has some plain grinding sessions. Necroticism is a nice mix of styles.
