Okay I've just checked and it doesn't change the controls if you're playing in Tate mode.

PartnerNet versions are usually not final release versions so anything could change between now and release.

I'm going to try and get this today to try out as well.

I have debugs in the office but never had a go at the Partnernet stuff so it's a good time to try.

in other words, it's A-ok

or do we have a case where left is up and right is down?

In any case, left will be left and up will be up if whatever is on the screen is correctly oriented towards the player.

This makes me more than a little sad I'm not in the industry anymore :(

The first time there's something I actually give a fuck about on partnernet, and I don't have it.

I miss it too. The studio I work for is now Sony exclusive, so no more 360 dev kits lying about. I'd love to give this an early look. I've always liked Guwange but shyed away from the PCB due to price. Really looking forward to this one getting released.

I've been playing a little bit of this in mame for the first time. This is one of the strangest shmups I've ever played. With the life bar it can be a little forgiving, but if you are stuck in the wrong spot you get wiped out really quick. The chaining with the shikigami.. Well, it's helpful to cancel out allot of the bullets, but if you slip up for just a second it is very difficult to recover. I do like how the stages are set up, trapping you in corridors. In all a beautiful, challenging game that I find compelling to play. There's just no way that the general populous is going to take to this. It would seem absolutely brutal to any kind of novice player. Even the people that play for achievements will be put off, assuming Cave goes with their standard rather difficult default setting super high scoring bet you can't do this.

I completely agree. This is absolutely the wrong game to use as an opening gambit for XBLA. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the first and last XBLA game we see from Cave because I can't see it selling that well. The only saving grace (for sales and appealing to more casual players) might be the (possibly) easier arrange mode they've added.

What surprises me is that they haven't gone with any of the obvious choices:

1) DDP
2) Feveron
3) Mushihimetama

XBLA is puzzle game heaven and tama would have sold like hot cakes, and probably be an easy enough port - I can't imagine that the game is particularly complex in code terms.

I disagree. I think the best choices would have been the original Espgaluda, followed by Mushi, followed by Ibara BL, ...If I had to pick three....if there were to be a fourth release...Guwange of course. The arrange mode in Guwange is probably going to make the game a lot easier for the casual player.

Regardless wether the public, or curious and brave gamers take to this, the important part to remember is that the game was chosen by a vote. Cave is putting this out for their fans, that should mean everything to us. It was also the same vote that brought their attention to the possibility of out of country distribution, and made Mushihime Futari and Espgaluda 2 region free. This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen any game company do. I would just like to see their gambit pay off, and make their return. Especially because xbla is the best way for them to reach a global audience right now. This forum proves that you can't really focus on one or two regions, their fans are handfuls of people spread out throughout the world. At the very least, in the end maybe they will see this and consider trying to distribute their games themselves through mail order. Guwange does have allot of atmosphere going for it, hopefully this mystique will help to sell it. Cave as a company seems to be excited with how their releases on the 360 have been going, seeing as they have released quite a few games in the last year. The recent announcements shows no sign of slowing. They are burning through their back catalog rather quickly. I hope this could mean that we can see original titles headed straight to home ports as soon as next year. They've said they were interested in this a few times now. I'm sure a couple other companies have taken notice that they are putting games out, Capcom looking at you, and are considering if it's worth putting out a disk release shmup just to round out their title library for this generation. Too bad Mikami (I think I misspelled that, the guy that recently put together Bayonetta) hasn't made a shmup. But, that's a topic for later. I guess when this comes out it'll be a good time to use that suggest a game feature that was recently added to xbla.

I'm still baffled how this game made the top spot of the vote.
It's on MAME, dudes.

I'm sure the next phase for late 2011-early 2012 will be Akai Katana as for a retail release from CAVE. As for Capcom, I'm really hoping they release Progear on XBLA. Would be nice of them to do so.

It gets annoying going back and forth from PC to 360 and changing the resolutions back and forth/connecting new joysticks up to the cab. I'd more appreciate just using one or the other, in this case the 360.

So you prefer worse visuals? At least with MAME you can get it outputting at the correct refresh rate/resoluton, and there's no way the port slowdown is going to be as accurate as it is on MAME.

Well, I have yet to try the shmup lagless edition of mame, but in my experience although mame is good, it wasn't good enough in the past(I do have a slow 733mhz ppc g4 though and have yet to try mame on my 2.0ghz del intel 4 pc which is about the same age never-the-less). I sometimes play Falcom YS games on the PC, but I have to map the TE stick pcb pad everytime with something like Xpadder which I have hooked up to controller one on the cab. I just prefer everything being sourced from the 360 if at all possible. The 360 however is not perfect. I have it hooked up with "Emphatic's UVC," and the wave interference at least in 24k mode is annoying when the game is at a standstill and not moving/in action. I would like to have the pcbs the most. If everything was working w/ mame, ofcourse the 360 would be of no use, but the 360 seems to win since it has most of the new titles for relatively low investment compared to the pcb counterparts.

What about the input delay?
I haven't tried it on MAME. Is there any delay? And which version of mame is better for this game?

I just like the idea that Cave is reaching out like this. Given a choice "buy this from us" or "skip and just play it on Mame"- I'm not going to be a cheap if the port is any good. Not to mention- emulation used to be fine when I hadn't had a chance to play with cabs- but given a choice-> actual hardware>port>emulation in some cases.

Also- didn't we pretty much get just about everything that was voted for? This is a good period for shootie fans.

As the PCB and MAME slowdown is totally different, I beg to differ.

Feel free to enlighten us. Last I heard it wasn't all that difficult to get a graphics card to output 15Khz RGB.

I predict this game is going to sell like crazy in the US compared to the region free stuff on disc. The IGN/PA crowd won't be able to complain about the price (as much), they are probably much more aversed to using MAME than we are, it has new upgraded graphics (they love that shit, hell I do too), it has a unique setting that the "omg loli" and "I'm sick of sci-fi" complainers won't be able to immediately write off, for the uninformed this game is no different than Futari and ESPGII except for it being cheaper, and lastly, our frothing demand for this game increases.

The graphics aren't upgraded. This is what I see being the gripe in reviews.
