Blazblue: Continuum Shift
Blazblue: Continuum Shift
Has any of you played this, or have info on this? If so, how does it compare to Calamity Trigger?

Re: Blazblue: Continuum Shift
Not out in the states yet, so I can't play it, but it looks great. The changes and new moves to existing characters all seem well-done, and the new characters look interesting. Not too thrilled about some new characters being added as DLC later on though. I hope that it won't be required to buy them in order to play AGAINST them in the game, only to play AS them, because in that case I won't care enough to get them anyway.

Hopefully the new furry character makes it over the pond.

Re: Blazblue: Continuum Shift
Just says release date July. I was never confident it would make it overseas, but apparently it will.

Re: Blazblue: Continuum Shift
I know the release data is July 27th in North America, but I was just wondering if people had played it in the arcade or something. It was also out July 1st in Japan, so maybe someone out there got to play it a little!

Re: Blazblue: Continuum Shift
You would think it would be a given in this day and age. But lets wait and see. They have a video up on the US aks site with the character talking in english. the way there bigging her up they better just include her inside the game (free) from the start.kengou wrote: I hope that it won't be required to buy them in order to play AGAINST them in the game, only to play AS them, because in that case I won't care enough to get them anyway.

You should check out Dustloop.com and find more info there.
I'm going to get this game, already got it pre-ordered at Amazon. I enjoyed the first one but never really managed to actually play it much. I will try and play this one though lol

Re: Blazblue: Continuum Shift
You're probably better off starting off with this one, the 1st one had a burst button (ala Guilty Gear) combo breaking system that damaged the person using it somehow. After playing so many GGX games this wreaked havoc on my gameplay, a combo breaker that hurts the person using it? From what I've read, the makers have changed/fixed this feature.
Also, I'm picky about choosing characters on fighting games, I like the weird, bizarre low tier chars. On BBCT I chose the shape shifting Arakune...I never really felt comfortable with him or anyone else in the game. This new BB has added some new people...hopefully I'll feel more at home with one of them.

Re: Blazblue: Continuum Shift
I actually bit the bullet and imported the LE from Japan. So far the game is everything a fan of the first could want and more.
Guard Primer replaces the Guard Libra gauge. This time you have a set number of primer points that will be depleted by moves with the crush property. It's a far better system than the old tug-o-war gauge that seemed to be largely ignored.
Challenge mode is a right arse. 10 challenges per character for 15 in total. Each challenge consists of pulling off a series of moves or combos. If you're someone like me who sucks at ariel play you'll have a rough time. Very useful training tool, though.
I'll post more thoughts when i've had time to get deeper into it.

Break Burst has replaced the Barrier Burst. It's essentially the same thing, only it doesn't leave you in danger status and you have two stocks, though the second can only be used if you're down a round. Not sure if you go to danger after using the second burst.ROBOTRON wrote:You're probably better off starting off with this one, the 1st one had a burst button (ala Guilty Gear) combo breaking system that damaged the person using it somehow. Re: Blazblue: Continuum Shift
True, but he does bring up a point. BlazBlu character designs seem lacking against the old Guilty cast. I wasn't a fan of the first game. I tried to like it, but I couldn't. I played the second one a few times and I honestly couldn't tell the difference. I'll probably pick up a used one eventually for the guitar tracks and occasional screw around. For the combo frenzy stuff though I'll be sticking with Marvel.apple arcade wrote:ROBOTRON wrote:You're probably better off starting off with this one, the 1st one had a burst button (ala Guilty Gear) combo breaking system that damaged the person using it somehow. I've been reading bits about this game. Am I right in thinking that nearly all the new characters are being sold individually as DLC for about 560MS points each?

Re: Blazblue: Continuum Shift
Th]e "burst button" (actually a combination of buttons but w/e) actually didn't hurt you, but it lowered your defense for the remainder of the round. The new game has tweaked this by removing the defense penalty on bursts and by allowing you to stack bursts until the next round.ROBOTRON wrote:You're probably better off starting off with this one, the 1st one had a burst button (ala Guilty Gear) combo breaking system that damaged the person using it somehow. If you were looking for bizarre low-tier in Arakune, you were looking at the wrong character, that motherfucker is stupid high. Don't worry, though, they've nerfed him for this version so you'll feel right at home. Also, I'm picky about choosing characters on fighting games, I like the weird, bizarre low tier chars. As far as I know the characters who were introduced in the arcade version of CS, Hazama and Tsubaki, will be available right out of the box. Mu and Makoto, who were not available in arcade, you gotta pay for. It's kind of lame, but w/eDaigohji wrote:I've been reading bits about this game. Really? I haven't tried CS yet but everyone I've seen indicates he's been buffed a little if anything. Can you go into any more detail about how he's been nerfed? If you were looking for bizarre low-tier in Arakune, you were looking at the wrong character, that motherfucker is stupid high. Re: Blazblue: Continuum Shift
He can't curse you instantly anymore, each time he uses a curse cloud, it builds a meter, and you only get cursed when that meter is filled. From there, the curse only lasts a set amount of time (as opposed to CT where you would stay cursed until Arakune was hit) and then you must refill the meter. The bugs themselves are quite different as well, they are much larger and thus, far easier to see coming, though you can still create some pretty good pressure with them.kengou wrote:Really? I was actually kind of excited about this one- then I got wind of "extra characters as dlc". Not sure how I feel about buying characters individually- much less for ($7?) each.
Looks gorgeous- had some goofy fun with the first one.

Re: Blazblue: Continuum Shift
I don't really have a problem with it. It's not like you have to buy them, you can still play against them even if you don't buy them. At the very least, the characters aren't on the disc already, so you're not paying for a simple unlock code. You still have everything the arcade version had without the DLC.Battlesmurf wrote:I was actually kind of excited about this one- then I got wind of "extra characters as dlc". Re: Blazblue: Continuum Shift
The game is already on the cheap side unless you're in Japan and $7 isn't so bad for a character. Makoto is really a lot of fun.Battlesmurf wrote:I was actually kind of excited about this one- then I got wind of "extra characters as dlc". so I've been playing this game for a few weeks and I have one question

WHY THE FUCK DO PEOPLE STILL PLAY STREET FIGHTER IV????

WHY THE FUCK DO PEOPLE STILL PLAY STREET FIGHTER IV????

Re: Blazblue: Continuum Shift
Maybe some of us are just casual players and prefer playing a familiar series like SF? Blazblue looks like a generic animu fighting game neither me or my friends feels like getting into.AraraSPAMWitch wrote:WHY THE FUCK DO PEOPLE STILL PLAY STREET FIGHTER IV????

Re: Blazblue: Continuum Shift
I've been playing this the past few weeks and while I enjoy it far more than Calamity Trigger, it still seems like a poor man's Guilty Gear. When I picked up GG years ago there were a handful of characters that I enjoyed playing right off the bat. With BB...I really don't like anyone except Litchi. The bulk of the cast seems to revolve entirely around gimmicks and the flow of combat is just strange. For the life of me I can't understand what would convince someone that run-away characters like Nu, Mu and Arakune are fun to play as or against.
I can't see myself playing this once I have all the achievements and I'll probably go back to SF2HDRemix and KOF98 GGPO for my fighting game fix until the ports of KOF13 and Arcana Heart 3 are out. Don't know if AH3 will be my kind of game (but am willing to try), but I really think SNK is on to something with KOF13. All the videos of it i've seen so far have looked great and barring anything too ridiculous is discovered with it I think it could be a 98/2K2-caliber game.
Also they should have just charged full price for the game and put all the DLC characters on disc. Putting out a pack in a year or so with more characters and changes for the old cast for the series' next revision would be fine and I'd gladly fork out for that in favor of another disc-release, but putting out 3 more characters so soon after the game's initial console release is lame.

Re: Blazblue: Continuum Shift
Makoto's files is included in the 1.1 patch required for online play. The patch is free to download, however if you want to play Makoto you must buy her DLC. This allows you to still play against people online without being forced to purchase new content.croikle wrote:How are these consistent?drunkninja24 wrote:you can still play against them even if you don't buy them.
