Why Is There A Yorkshireman In R-Type Leo?

Post by mjclark »

I'm thoroughly enjoying R-Type Leo and see here that I'm not the only one, but is that really a middle-aged Yorkshireman saying "Let's go!" at the beginning. It's like R-Type meets The Banana Splits.

Yep, I thought so too. Made me laugh the first time I heard it.

That is not a Yorkshire accent, that's a Japanese man trying to do a generic American accent.

R-Type Leo is the best R-Type (tho I haven't played Delta).
IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

True, it's almost certainly a Japanese guy trying to sound American, but it really does sound much more like a Yorkshire accent. I think it's great, one of my favorite accents to hear. If you really want a treat, get a Yorkshireman to say "goose."

I have an unofficial version of the soundtrack somewhere. It's hilarious to hear it in the beginning of all the different stage themes.

"goose"

...this thread is going to make me play Leo again. I've not played it since it disappeared from the arcade in Meadowhall (in South Yorkshire).

Oh god, how did I ever not notice this before? And regarding the initial question, why shouldn't there be a Yorkshireman in space? I think it's quite nice that such a distinctive accent has been preserved in the far future :D

This place needs some serious US life support, before it becomes shmups.uk.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

That's a sample. It's part of the sentence 'To the Batmobile, let's go.' I'm sure there will be some on Youtube.

The Leo guy doesn't sound anything like Adam West. I don't hear a Japanese accent in there either.

I wasn't implying it was Adam West. Here is an old track that used the sample.

Woah, that does sound like the voice from Leo. My mistake, I didn't know there was a song named after that Adam West line.

Sounds more Japanese than Yorkshire-ish to me...

Sorry to bust your Gradius bubble but Malc is Scottish and Bloodflowers is English
So it always was shmups.uk

This is why I love these forums :D But why is there a middle-aged Yorkshireman impersonating Batman?
