Amazing 2D reinvisionings of modern games

Wow. I wish these were all real games. Some of my favorites are the Metroid Other M one, the Sin and Punishment 2 one, the Gameboy Dead Space one, and I still love that Bayonetta one that's been around for a while.

Wow. Those are absolutely amazing.
I especially liked the Bayonetta and Sin and Punishment ones.
The only one that didn't utterly *wow* me was the Mariokart one [it didn't seem like it was a "real" screencap].
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Damn -- awesome.
I think I enjoyed those stills more than I would have playing the original games start to finish.

The Soul Calibur one is pretty neat looking. I also liked the Sin And Punishment 2 one a good bit.

I'd totally play the Brutal Legend one. And FF13.

Lol, I've seen this link whored out so much over the last few days. They are absolutely awesome though. As I mentioned one of the other times it was bought to my attention, most of these look more fun than the 3D originals!

The RDR one looks almost like the Gun.Smoke sequel Capcom should've made.

I remember seeing the Bayonetta picture a few months ago. Even then, color me impressed. This stuff is great.

The Mirror's Edge one is really cool. At least in 2D you can see where you're going and wouldn't keep falling off buildings.

Haha, parts of these look so familiar. Not sure if Sophitia on the Soul Calibur one is more Liza from Kaiser Knuckle, or one of the girls from Blandia, or something else entirely.

Red Dead Redemption has some obvious Capcom looks, like Commando and Gun.Smoke.

Pretty neat stuff, especially the C64 originals put in some good stuff.

Also, SPRITE DRAGONZZZzz oh yeah

The resident evil 5 looks like an instant buy - hell, they all look better than their real counterparts.

If I ever started a team it would be called 2D heaven.

I would love to make on of those side scrolling games like Shinobi in 1080p, with full screen scaling like the Neo. The mind boggles what you could achieve. I've always had a good imagination for it.

Yeah, that was quite a while back. Guess he decided to throw everything else up. Very nice stuff.

Looks like the Japanese got wind of the story:

I'm not a member at the forum in the OP, but I think the author should know how far his work has reached.

With graphics drawn in 1080p that shit gets expensive though. I agree that there's a lot that can be done with low-res stuff that isn't happening as much as it should of course.

Also, it figures that Yahoo article seems to fixate on FF13. Good to see it recognized though.

This reminds me of AtariAge's surprise 2600 game at the Classic Gaming Expo in Vegas. Halo 2600. I wasn't impressed when I first tried it, but after playing a bit more, it's a fun Berzerk style reinvisioning of Halo. Also, AtariAge has the ROM available for download. It was designed by Ed Fries and he showed it to Bungie, so it's pretty legit. It can be downloaded here.

Those stills rock. Makes me wish they were real (though Mirror's Edge kind of is).
