First vert with smartbombs

Couldn't find a topic for this. For me a defining element of the modern vert is some kind of panic bomb that nullifies enemy bullets or destroys a lot of enemies at once. Which got me to thinking, which vert shmup introduced this feature? Was it Kyukyoku Tiger? Or was there one before that? Does Slap Fight have a smartbomb? I'm not really counting an item pickup here, but an actual bomb you can keep and use when you want.
