The Alternate Age......is this a shmup? Or an addon?

Can anyone help me with this?

The screenshots appear to be Perfect Cherry Blossom, but the page says something about "the Alternate Age", and I DL'd the 50 meg demo, but unzipping it doesn't create any exe files.......what exactly is this? Am I missing something? Maybe it's a hack for Shanghai Alice games?

It's a fan-made game based on the Touhou Shanghai Alice games. According to the page, the trial versions (it mentions that two exist) should be playable. I don't know why you can't run it - I didn't try it, so I can't say if it worked for me either.

For what it's worth, the full version will apparently be released at the summer comiket this year.

Oh god, look at the top left picture. There's such a thing as too many bullets.

It looks exactly like something Shanghai Alice would make, though.

I double checked the zip file and still cannot find anything close to an executiable file......this is odd........

The only file I can interact with is a .chm file, which turns out to be instructions. I would like to play this demo, oh well.........

If anyone figures this out, please post the solution!

apparently theres a seperate program you have to download (TouHOu Danmakufu i think it is) there's a link to the external website. i think you need to find it ther,e and use that executable to run the game.

Aha! This downloadable trial, "The Alternative Age", is actually a very well-made script file for a freeware STG-maker game called "Touhou-Danmakufu".

To run Alternative Age, you will need to download Danmakufu v0.11m or higher and uncompress it.
Next, you need to copy the "thA_TR" folder that was in Alternative Age into the "script" folder of Danmakufu.
Finally, run Danmakufu, choose "Stage" from its title menu, select the "Alternative Age" from the short list of choices, select a character (it doesn't really matter), and play!

Essentially, Danmakufu (Danmaku-fu?) is a very powerful STG engine with every kind of function you would really need to create enemies, bullets, lasers, all leaning toward making games similar to the Touhou series... So you would write a script, open up Danmakufu, and play your creation right then and there. It's fun to play with, and I've coded some reasonably accurate renditions of Blaster Cannon Core (GV 5-4) and Beacon (GV 7-3).

However, I've never seen anyone actually try to create an entire GAME with Danmakufu, complete with menus, Music Rooms, conversations and all, which is why I'm impressed by this effort. Most people just make one-shots for fun.

Cool! I got it working, thanks a bunch, Leviathean. It is a Shanghai Alice clone game, basically, but looks like more importantly we've stumbled on a STG creation device.......
