XRGB-3
Re: XRGB-3
Check your Saturn RGB cable. Does it use composite video or composite sync for the RGB signal ? If it uses C-Sync, you might want to give C-Video a try instead....
Re: XRGB-3
I'll be perfectly honest I have absolutely no idea what any of that means

Re: XRGB-3
A RGBs signal carries 4 signals for the picture, RED/GREEN/BLUE and SYNC. Depending on the cable you use, either a real composite sync signal is used for sync purposes or the composite video signal is used for Sync. Since the VGA output in B1 mode is coupled to the Sync input and since the composite video signal works for you in B1 mode, check if your Saturn RGB cable is using C.Sync or C.Video. You can usually see this when you look at the pins at the Saturn end of the cable.
Re: XRGB-3
Oh hang on if by that you mean:
Composite video (one yellow plug for video and a red and white for stereo audio)
Composite Sync (cable with red, green and blue plugs for video and then 2 for audio)
Then the cable I am using is the first one. Just tried the same with my PCE and that works fine also, but I wanted to go down the scart route as i'm assuming that will give a sharper and more colour rich signal to be upscaled.
I will be getting a saturn RGB scart cable in a day or two so will experiment with that but i'm guessing it will give me the same problem.
Just can't understand why B1 works with my composite cables but not with the 21 pin game connector on the front. So frustrating!!
Oh and sorry for my complete thickness, i've never really been great with understanding video signals and whatnot!

Re: XRGB-3
Ah right thanks for the explanation Fudoh! I have just checked a pinout for the saturn plug, my saturn cabe only has 3 pins in it ansd these are Laudio, R Audio and Composite Video, so it is using c-video not sync I guess
Re: XRGB-3
Na, you have to check your RGB Scart cable and compare it to this pinout:
http://www.gamesx.com/avpinouts/saturnav.htm
It will either use Pin 1 oder Pin 8. If it uses Pin 1 you can try to change that to Pin 8 and see if you get a picture afterwards.

It's not the connector, it's the kind of sync signal you're sending into it...Just can't understand why B1 works with my composite cables but not with the 21 pin game connector on the front.
Re: XRGB-3
Ah right ok cool I think I understand now.
I guess i'll need to chec the scart adatper I have first as that is being plugged straight into the XRGB.
I'll also ask the guy who is building my saturn RGB cable to wire up the cvideo rather than sync.
So do you have any idea why the PS2 composite cable doesn't work in B1, because by the sound of it it should shouldn't it??
Cheers
Paul

Re: XRGB-3
Ahh... so that's why I decided to put a switch on one of the last saturn cables I built!

(single poll switch for selectable composite video or sync)

Re: XRGB-3
Why are there two cables sticking out of the casing?

Of course

Re: XRGB-3
it may sound noobish but does this also works for a supergun or modded pc engine scart cable? Can I just change this two cables and see if my monitor now gets a picture?Fudoh wrote:Na, you have to check your RGB Scart cable and compare it to this pinout:

or do I need to built a LM1881 inside the cable? I've heard that building this cable in side the mak supergun cable can disturb the signal on the xrbg 3. KONSOLEKONGEN has posted a video on youtube I believe.

Re: XRGB-3
Right so, I brought an XRGB3 love it in Linedoubling mode.
I also recently purchased a PC-Engine Duo-R with the RGB Mod. Now when the XRGB is in B0 (Scaling) the Duo via RGB is fine no problem at all, however I prefer linedoubling and when the XRGB is in that mode with the Duo the screen has extreme flickering issues.
Does anyone know why?
many Thanks

Re: XRGB-3
a supergun only has compsite sync, no composite video and the PCE requires internal modding to use the different sync signal. Maybe worth a try nevertheless.it may sound noobish but does this also works for a supergun or modded pc engine scart cable? Just got my XSelect-D4
PS2 is virtually noise free, 240p and 480p look even better than before

SNES also flickers like mad when in B1 mode, B0 has no problems - its a PAL unit with a modded for NTSC GC Scart cable. Really need some advice guys The XRGB in B1 mode is heaven if I could just get it to work with that!
Thanks

what exactly do you mean by flickering ? Can you take a closeup video using a digicam and upload it ?however I prefer linedoubling and when the XRGB is in that mode with the Duo the screen has extreme flickering issues.

Hello:
Heres the issue with the PC-Engine:

Re: XRGB-3
ok, now that's interesting... Can you give it a try on another VGA display ? Would be a first step to determine wether your TV can't handle the signal or the XRGB is already messing up.
Do you know which kind of Duo RGB mod you're using ?

Re: XRGB-3
Fudoh, does the XRGB-3 modify the sync signal in B1?
I see in the above video that the user having the problem uses a Samsung TV. I've experienced that issue on a bunch of Samsungs with a few different consoles with strong sync(no XRGB) - the famicom and PCE problems were solved by putting a resistor on the sync line. It's not a given, but there are Samsungs having that problem out there.

Yay! That was indeed the issue - my Samsung 46" C750 wont doesnt like the signal with PC-Engine and XRGB however its fine on my Pioneer KRP-600 60"
Should have tried that sooner!
Re: XRGB-3
Probably worth a try then what ZOM suggested (adding a resistor to the RGB cable's sync line), maybe that improves the behaviour on the Samsung now that you know that the XRGB is fine.
Re: XRGB-3
Err, well considering im quite clueless about that sort of thing would you know someone who can do that to my RGB cables? or do you have any detailed instructions...?Fudoh wrote:Probably worth a try then what ZOM suggested (adding a resistor to the RGB cable's sync line), maybe that improves the behaviour on the Samsung now that you know that the XRGB is fine.

Lol.... I'm one of the people who does that type of stuff...Shozuki wrote:Err, well considering im quite clueless about that sort of thing would you know someone who can do that to my RGB cables? or do you have any detailed instructions...?Fudoh wrote:Probably worth a try then what ZOM suggested (adding a resistor to the RGB cable's sync line), maybe that improves the behaviour on the Samsung now that you know that the XRGB is fine.

Found one on craigslist for $100. Dumb luck, really. Also, check your PM's.Konsolkongen wrote:Where did you find one and how much did you pay for it?

Re: XRGB-3
Hi!
The XRGB-3 arrived in the mail today. None too surprisingly my TV (a Samsung LE52M87) doesn't play nice with the VGA signal that the XRGB-3 outputs. So instead I plugged in a DVI->HDMI adapter into the XRGB-3 output, with a HDMI cable running into a DVDO Edge to see if it would transcode that into something my TV could make sense of. Doesn't work though. I checked the signal information in the DVDO onscreen menu and it doesn't show being fed any signal at all through that input.
Any thoughts of what I could be doing wrong?
So far I've only tried PAL PS2 games running at 50Hz 576i. I don't think that's the issue though, even if the DVDO couldn't make anything with it I should still be able to see what it's being fed no?
EDIT: And if you're wondering why I don't just run the PS2 straight into the Edge and skip the XRGB-3 instead, I'm just testing it out for now to make sure it works before I start butchering SCART cables for JP21 adapters.

Re: XRGB-3
The Edge probably isn't compatible with too many of the PC formats available in B0, especially not in 50Hz (since technically those are not supported VESA modes).
Do you eventually want to use the XRGB in B0 or B1 ? If B1, make sure you have the B1 firmware installed and you use a VGA connection into the Edge, not a DVI/HDMI one.
Overall the XRGB is pretty compatible with the DVDO processors.

Re: XRGB-3
I'm not too fussed.. I could manage with either B0 or B1.
Either I'm confused or the Edge doesn't have VGA input though so not sure how to make that happen.
I'll look into updating the firmware. I have a feeling this one is rather old. The Edge should be pretty up to date though.
