Blur- really really underappreciated game!
I did the Best Buy 20 + 10 off $40 on this one. Actually makes me sad that I didn't get into it sooner (it hasn't been out long). Really just a completely awesome game- worth the $59.99 asking price! There's a manufacturer coupon ($20) at blurgamepromotion.com- the game is $59.99 just about everywhere, with Amazon and BestBuy being exceptions (and ymmv with getting the coupon or the reward zone coupon to work at BestBuy's $39.99 price).
The cars are alot of fun, the game has alot of color. It's a blast to drive with friends- just a shame I don't hear people talking about this game more often!

I bought split second and didn't like it at all. What sort of game is blur?
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

It got a very good review from DJ Incompetent on DGR.
Re: Blur- really really underappreciated game!
I spent a fiar bit of time playing the beta. It is quite fun, it's somewhere between Hi Octane, Mario Kart, and PGR.

Split Second sucks behind and has that US racing playability. sucks. I kind of count of Blur as the same. Should we really look into it?neorichieb1971 wrote:I bought split second and didn't like it at all. What sort of game is blur?

Doesn't play anything like Split/Second.
If anything, it's very similar to WipeOut (similar powerups, with ability to shoot them in reverse, tracks with tons of jumps, wall sliding (though it's probably unintentional here), hovercraft-y movement(at least with low grip cars)).

• Also, reader Mindsale shares this: "Best Buy and Kmart have Blur marked down to $39.99 from June 20 to June 26. Combine with the $20 off manufacturer's coupon ([www.blurgamepromotion.com]) for a $19.99 copy of Blur. Combine with Best Buy's Reward Zone $10 off Blur coupon (also available on June 20.) for a $9.99 copy of Blur.
Here's the link to d/l the Best Buy Rewards Zone coupon for $10 buck off either PS3 or XBox 360 versions of Blur (just gotta have a Rewards card & present it to the cashier upon purchasing it): https://myrewardzone.bestbuy.com/viewDe ... ?tc=CPN_10 Has an expiration date of July 3rd, 2010.
So it's possible to buy either PS3 or 360 version of Blur for cheap this week. Thanks for letting us know about this cool racing gem, battlesmurf. Definitely better than paying the asking MSRP of $59.99 USD indeed. I do recall that it hasn't been out on retailers' shelving for very long...just a couple of weeks at best. Is there a PS3 demo of Blur to d/l before buying it?

Re: Blur- really really underappreciated game!
For those who played the PC version, anyone can help me?
With my PC's spec:
Core2Duo E4500 @2.2GHz
2GB DDR2 RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8600GT 256 megs
This game only runs in 5 FPS, 10 FPS in menus (I've downloaded the latest update already for both the game and graphic card driver). and I don't think it's because hitching either
http://www.bizarrecreations.com/forum/v ... 42&t=18726
Anyone know how to fix it?
Suggestions will be appreciated.
edit: and yes, I prefer this to S/S.

Re: Blur- really really underappreciated game!
Does it run so slow even on lowest detail and lowest resolution (8600's performance rapidly drops with increasing res)? Do you have forced AA or something in drivers? I have very similar HW (except with 8800gtx) and had no problems. In the thread you linked to someone suggested that turning off music also helps.
Finding solution to this on Google may be a problem, searching for "blur framerate" produces many interesting results but nothing related to this game
.
EDIT: Speaking of framerate, Split/Second is choppy no matter what you do. You can play it in fucking 320x240 and it won't help. 30FPS is hardcoded. Good job.

It won't help even if I set details and sound quality to low, disabling licensed soundtrack, antialias and vsync, and set the res into 640x480worstplayer wrote:Does it run so slow even on lowest detail and lowest resolution (8600's performance rapidly drops with increasing res)? And yeah, the video's sound also stutters.
edit: So, uh,yeah
maximum quality settings, 1024x768

If Geforce 9600's FPS already dying like that, then my 8600 already way even worse!

8xAA makes a lot of difference, game has to render 8x as many pixels (not counting postprocessing etc.). It should run better than that.

I have it on PC myself and whiled away 5 hours on the multiplayer without realizing it. The single player is great too. I adore the game.

Yeah this game is fuckin' sweet on a fair multiplayer battleground. It's designed for home theaters for sure. Great depth in the combat mixed with Turismo PGR racing physics. The only bummer is the RPG leveling system holding back useful tools before you feel like you can compete.
The cheaters are spreading though. You gotta lookout for avoiding the "AAA" racing team, the "TH3" racing team, haruna, urlastmajesty, and like 100 others. The Legends rank cheat is very rampant, but that just gets people slightly faster cars most players don't know how to use. It's the infinite nitros and infinite weapons people you gotta start getting in the habit of dropping Tampering Complaints then changing rooms. The scene isn't ruined yet, just the top several hundred of the leaderboards, so stick with it.
It makes me appreciate the dodonpachi scoring dramas that happen around here, fer-real.
But yeah man, $40 and under pick it up. Best racing game I know about!

So, I found the culprit already.
If I turn off my modem (alias disconnect from the internet), the game runs even smoother, let's say it reaches over 30 FPS. I'm glad with that

Re: Blur- really really underappreciated game!
Took battlesmurf's excellent advice and bought the PS3 version of Blur for a mere cheap-ass ten bucks + tax from my local Best Buy store. You can't get any better than that scoring a retail PS3 game that intially sells for $59.99 USD for a mere $9.99 USD. Unfortunately, it takes up a whopping 1.5GB of HDD installation space on the PS3's HDD -- which can be a tight fit for those with smaller HDDs.
Both the XBox 360 and PS3 versions of Blur are displayed in 720p format (assuming you're using HDMI or component cable setup or if using the optional 360 VGA cable setup).
Another one of those cool cheap-ass game steals/purchases IMO.

Re: Blur- really really underappreciated game!
One of the most fun games I played in a while...
Played the demo on PSN (check it out -> multiplayer online demo) & ordered straight away.
great atmosphere & the fan/rival system is extremely addictive.
if ppl wanna race me:
mogalious is my PSN nick.
sent friend request mentioning blur & shmups I know it's no spam.
I paid 35 euro for this, and it's worth every cent & more. GET IT!

I hate to be the sour apple here, but I think it sucks, there I said it.
17 years after Mario Kart, we are still doing the pick up power ups scattered on the road thing?
Really? c´mon man!
But, OK if you are into racing with shooting games, this IS pretty good.
It´s just me, I like racing games and not another Mario Kart clone. that is getting old.
That having been said, the racing gameplay is solid. So if this does not frighten you go ahead and try the psn demo, better clear up some stuff since the file is 2 gigs!

Mario Kart was the birth of a new genre, this is just an exponent of that, with new additions (not power up wise).
It's like saying every shmup after galaga/xevious is getting old too... by expanding on proven success.
but to each their own, so try the demo to see if you like it.
full version has WAY more cool track 2 race on though.
