So what are the specific gameplay differences between the two romsets then?

I thought the difference was only down to a missing intro sequence.

You do understand the PCB has different rom versions as well don't you?

I thought the missing intro sequence was just a region difference. But I'm also curious how to identify which rom my PCB is using. From what I've seen in the mame replays, one rom is significantly more difficult than the other starting with stage 1.

The intro scene only appears when you switch to japanese version in the dipswitches; this applies to every romset.

AFAIK the enemies at the start won't shoot at you in romset 2, while they do in romset 1. My score is from version 1.2.

this is why the "VERSION" field is seperate from "<MAME VERSION>", which is the actual version of MAME itself you used and is pretty much a bonus section

Code: Select all

-0.104u5: Tormod Tjaberg added Out Zone (set 1). Renamed (outzoneb) to (outzonec), (outzonea) to (outzoneb) and (outzone) to (outzonea).
-9th December 2005: Corrado Tomaselli dumped Out Zone (set 4). This dump comes from a totally dead board with no original stickers. They aren't very different from the set 1 , so they can be hacked or a little corrupted. I swapped the roms on my working board and they seem to be good but maybe it crashes on later levels. In my opinion set 2 has to be renamed to "protoype" or "early version". There are less music/sfx there isn't an ending sequence. I dumped 4 outzones and they were all set 1.
-0.97u5: Aaron Giles swapped Out Zone (set 1) with (set 2) - the other set was a newer revision with more secret bonuses, refined sound effects and a real ending instead of a few text lines. Renamed (outzone) to (outzonea) and (outzonea) to (outzone).
you can tell which version is which easily:
-version 1.0/prototype plays music in a different order than the OST (perhaps some music is even missing); ex. the stage 6 theme plays in stage 2
-version 1.1 has the correct order, the game-start message is different, and the other changes mentioned above
-version 1.2 appears identical to 1.1 but harder, this could even be some crazy hack but the MAME team sure seems to think it isn't so I'm just calling it 1.2 anyway

feels good man

Don't feel like downloading the OST, I suppose I can trust BridgeM1 to have it tagged by the OST though. I'm gonna see if I can't figure out my board rev. from just looking at it anyway.

Well, all the old scores are still there. Shouldn't take long to make a new board.

So what's lbg gonna do about this thread? Honestly I see no need to separate scores between versions. Keeping it like it was before is just fine.
