360 Hori stick question...

Post by farewell »

I'm looking to finally grab an arcade stick for my Xbox, seeing as it seems to be the new home of the shmup. I'm pretty dead set on a Hori, but I was wondering - since the stick connects via USB (I assume), will the stick also work with a computer? If I could get a stick that works with my Xbox and MAME, that would be amazing.
This is the end.

Haven't tried my cheap 360 hori with mame yet (I have a diy USB stick for that), but I'm about 99% positive it'll work fine. USB is awesome like that.

Microsoft has an official driver on their site that allows 360 controllers to work on a PC.

Excellent. I figured they did, but I wasn't sure and figured someone here would be. Thanks!

For all HORI sticks made for the 360, they'll all work automatically on a PC. The only issue at hand is that the directions are mapped to the POV hat.

Fortunately the hat can be mapped directly in MAME, so this should only be a problem if you're playing a straight PC shmup that doesn't support it.

MAME reads my TE stick as hat switches too. I do not think it really makes a difference does it?

I've been looking into the Qanba 2 "WuJi" lately. It is a Chinese stick but it seems to get quite positive reviews. Also..

Can't go wrong with the Hori EX-SE joystick endowed with all Japanese Seimitsu arcade parts...it was priced at $91.94 a few weeks back on the Amazon.com site. Bought it at that attractive pricepoint with free shipping option. Solid arcade stick on the 360 console platform indeed. Comes with a 90-day manufacturer's warranty -- which is posted on the Hori USA site, of course.

Indeed, quite the deal, especially for arcade shooting game enthusiasts, who prize the Seimitsu LS-32 as a top shooting game arcade stick lever. I, too, acquired my Hori EX-SE from Amazon.com at a very attractive pricepoint with a special free shipping option.

It has the added benefit of PC compatibility, in addition to its natural Xbox 360 usefulness ^_~

In case you're still on the fence, I've got one right when it came out in NA, and I use it exclusively on PC; works great. For anything that doesn't like POV hats, you can just use Xpadder. Really good stick, and if I ever pick up a 360, I'll be set.
