How angry does it make you when Cho Ren Sha isn't mentioned?

I just installed this again and it's giving me sound issues. It also skips the start screen almost instantly and goes directly into demo mode. Anyone else have this problem?

CRS Rocks, hope it gets into the top 50 next year, BTW for those trying to use autofire using xpadder, map an autofire shoot button to another controller button since the original fire and bomb buttons cant be remapped or have autofire set on them for some reason

There is a complicated scoring system in Cho Ren Sha?Subterranean Sun wrote:It seems I was the only person have problem with the scoring system here.

The scoring system in CRS68k is not even close to complicated. It's very easy to learn, yet VERY hard to master. "Stay in the center of that circle" sounds easy, but... I don't know if this happens to everyone or just me, but I can't do that. I don't know why. Maybe I just need more practice, or maybe I should buy a joystick?lgb wrote:There is a complicated scoring system in Cho Ren Sha?Subterranean Sun wrote:It seems I was the only person have problem with the scoring system here.

Setting it to Win98 compatibility fixed sound issues in Vista for me.Elixir wrote:I just installed this again and it's giving me sound issues. It also skips the start screen almost instantly and goes directly into demo mode. Anyone else have this problem?
Haven't been able to do anything about it going into super-speed at times [title screen, initial swoosh, although the game seems to run normal speed after that] on some machines/configs [notably, in Wine or in WinXP under VirtualBox on my machine].
If it really bothers you, run the X68k version in an emulator.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

I can't help feeling that if this is the kind of thing that gets you angry, you might want to consider taking a good, long look at your priorities.

Eh, it's a very solid game. Even better that it's free. But looping stages and music get's stale. If they proceeded to clean up the game, it would have been excellent.
Re: How angry does it make you when Cho Ren Sha isn't mentioned?
Edit: Some may have issues but it runs fine on my Vista laptop.
I first downloaded Cho Ren Sha waaaay back during summer 2001 on my ancient 1999 model Win 98 3.2 gig HP PC (the computer I used when I discovered Shmups and the old forum way back in Feb 99) and have always loved it for a quick blast. Sure, it's a bit too easy and obviously the background/s is ridiculously repetitive, but the moody music, lovely old school sprites, and making the bosses destroy themselves all add up to a classic. Several months ago I got nostalgic and found the game again and spent an evening looping it a few times. My point total is somewhere in the score forum. I would have looped it three times but the game's relative ease fooled me into being lax causing me to mess up halfway through my second run, haha.

Yeah, I was introduced to both ChoRenSha and shmup forum back around 2000 or 2001 by mode7 over on the TNL forums.Dylan1CC wrote: I first downloaded Cho Ren Sha waaaay back during summer 2001

I think Cho Ren Sha is a great game... but what do I know, I also think other FREE games like Demolition Gunner, XOP, End Effector and Blue Wish Ressurrection Plus are also great!
The only thing that slightly annoys me about Cho Ren Sha is the lack of auto fire.

Back on topic...
I personally love the game and still fire it up every so often (sometimes just to hear the music). It's one of the freeware games I like to keep with me on my thumb drive.
I agree with silkworm that it could use some auto-fire, though.
Re: How angry does it make you when Cho Ren Sha isn't mentioned?
I never really understand that complaint about no autofire. The ship reaches maximum firing rate with very little tapping. You're not gonna destroy your finger like in, say, Image Fight.
Of course, that's just an opinion.
