Rabbit Punch/Rabio Lepsus

Post by spadgy »

I've got a bit of a hard-on for Video System shooters right now, but I can very little on Rabbit Punch (aka Rabio Lepsus) here on the forum.

What do people of played it think? Is it worth hunting down?

I've only played the PS2 version.

All I can say is that it's got almost to no resemblance to other Video System games (I believe it was the first one).
Graphics are fine for its time, but the music isn't anything special. It's challenging but mostly on the cheap side. I heard that there are also differences form the Japanese and the North American arcade releases - where the NA will be much more difficult due to how the continue works during the last 4 stages.

As I played this in the arcades while growing up, I have lots of love for it. The "punch" comes from your point-blank attack, where your rabbit punches the enemy. When you kill a boss, huge bonus carrots will start raining down from above and you can collect as many as possible until the first you miss splash down on the ground. The second button shoots awesome missiles, but IIRC you have to pick up a pack of 'em before you can use them. The fire button is semi-automatic (like most Video System games). I prefer vertical shooters overall, but this one is really fun. I hope you've checked out Storm Blade as well, even though it's by VISCO.

That's what put me off the game. The cheapness is overwhelming in places.

I love playing with the rabbit ship and its bunny girl pilot in Sonic Wings Special, though.

Despite the fact it's not all optimism, I do sense a degree of enthusiasm. Especially from emphatic.

I like both Video System shooters and rabbits a great deal (rivaled only by squirrels of course), so I'm certainly going to keep an eye out for this when it's cheap.

I guess the Oretachi Game Center PS2 version is the same as all the titles in that series, in that it's a bad port with some nice extras?

Awesome little curiosity shmups this is. It's all about the lobotomized Arnie on stage 3. :D

As for the Oretachi Geasen Zoku version, Rabio Lepus was OGZ 14 and unfortunately OTG 16 (Contra) was when they started to take things seriously and include 240p arcade resolution. It's also got a weird glitchiness where it displays a bunch of pixilated junk just off the right side of the screen which is mostly unnoticeable but really gets in the way when you adjust the overscan to fit the screen.

It's the only true arcade port anyway so it's PS2 or PCB. The PC Engine version is a different game all together.

Exactly what I like to play.

Time to add the PCB to my WTB list.

Wow! I haven't thought about this game in a loooooong time. I remember playing it as a kid on a neogeo cabinet in the Bronx. I remember it kicking my ass...alot. But I did have a bunch of fun with it. I gotta track this game down now.

I enjoy the PS2 post of Rabio Lepus, but I do have to mention that it did freeze up on me once. I have since been able to play the whole way through to the end. (unlike Trio the Punch, which froze at some point every time I played it.)
