Saru Getchu 3 (Ape Escape 3) is most excellent

Post by Cthulhu »

Even though I'm moving back to the US in like a week, I saw the new Saru Getchu game at the local electronics store the other day and I couldn't help myself. A new 3D plaformer that isn't half shooter!?! Sign me up!

It's a damn good game too. Tons of items to use, tons of transformations that give you new abilities, and lots of vehicles to ride in. The levels are a bit small, but they're quite varied (I wish there were more enemy types, however), and there seem to be a lot of them. I've only fought one boss so far, but it was a damn cool battle. I look forward to more.

Can't say I'm a big fan of the series, but I enjoyed the simplicity of Ape Escape 2. a fun, funny game...definitely worth the cheap price it is now.

I loved the first game but the second bored the hell out of me :( Never bothered clearing it all...which i really should do at some point. Clearing Ape Escape 100% was a total blast, though.

Can't wait to play this one :(

I never played 2 (I bought it along with 3 since I had enough bonus points to get it for just 5 bucks), but I've heard mixed stuff about it.

3 is definitely cool though. It's a tad easy (I guess 1 wasn't too hard either) but I don't really mind. Progress is nice and brisk and I keep getting new stuff. Also, there have been more enemy types showing up, which gets rid of one of my complaints. The last two bosses have been easier than the first one (for some reason), but were fun battles nonetheless.

I'm glad I bought this. :D

2 was a painfully safe and mediocre rehash. Characters were far more irritating. Much fewer life refills in a stage. Some stages near no refills could be found. Staying far away from 3, this is another one hit wonder series that gets dragged out forever.

3 adds in a ton of new stuff in the form of transformations (I know those were not in 2) that give you new abilities and the new vehicles, so it's pretty safe to say that this one isn't a re-hash.. Also, the life refills issue has been dealt with - enemies now drop health-ups, with the chance of them dropping one increasing the lower you get on life. I've still died a few times (not many, but it has happened), but I've never felt as though the game was cheating me by not putting health-ups in.
