The ongoing battle of those obsessed with lolis, those obsessed with hating lolis, and those obsessed with hating those who hate lolis.

Recent shooters could stand to have more fisting in them.

Honestly, there's a great many things that could probably be improved in this fashion.

I'm no expert on Japanese swords, but AFAIK, the swords depicted on the website worn by the characters are tachi, not katana. Katana are worn with the concave curve side up and are drawn to slash downwards, not upwards as the swords shown are. Am I wrong?

I sure hope somebody got fired for that blunder!

Looks promising and I will be sure to check it out on Friday. Been a while since we got a non-sequel from Cave.

Strictly speaking, "katana" (= 刀 - which can also be read as "tou") is a generic word for "single edged sword" as well - and not even a Japanese sword, at that (that would more properly be a 日本刀). It's interesting to note that the Japanese Wikipedia page does not contain any entry for "katana" in the list of swords "classified by shape" (the closest you get is the "uchigatana").

But since you asked, it doesn't *look* like a tachi to me (despite it being worn blade down) - the blade curvature is only shallow, and it has handle wrapping (tsuka-ito), which is unusual for a tachi. But hey, who knows?

I'll keep my fingers crossed for a 2D game and not a 3D one. Please Cave don't use the same hardware as DS II.

I hope you're not suggesting them go back to SH3, because that dinosaur has made a good portion of their recent games grind to a halt, and using anything less powerful than their DS2 hardware would be a crime against themselves.

I am just saying that i don't want another graphical atrocity like DS II arcade version, that is all. While there are a lot of shooting games in 3D with great art IMO DS II is just horrible (I am not talking about gameplay just graphics and art).

But… hardware has virtually nothing to do with it!

Indeed. Just take a look at the beautiful graphics in Ikaruga. Some of the best 3D graphics seen in any shmup, created on hardware several generations behind what Cave made DSII on. But yeah, you could just as easily do 2D on that hardware as you could 3D. Cave are responsible for the average graphics in arcade DSII, not the hardware.

Eh...I'd say the hardware is at least partially responsible.

Did you not actually read what I posted? It's possible to get great looking 3D graphics from much more primitive hardware. If DSII looks worse than a 3D shmup released almost 10 years ago on much more primitive hardware, then that's the fault of the developer, not the hardware.

Given that the hardware was new (to Cave) it wouldn't be difficult to imagine that they wouldn't be able to make the hardware sing on their first attempt.

A large portion of their best games are on that hardware though, and if they aren't.... their on OLDER hardware. That new hardware isn't strong enough to do 3D that trumps the SH3. That or they are awful with it right now.

If they can pull off Ikaruga or G5 level visuals on it that's a diff story.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
