Resonance Of Fate...questions

Post by evil_ash_xero »

After reading some positive comments about this game in another thread, I was wondering a few things.

For one, I basically can't stand newer RPGs because of their overblown cinemas. Tales Of Vesperia would of been OK, but you couldn't fast forward them.
Are these not so long, and can you skip them(either after you've seen them once, or the first time around)?

Also, can you turn the battle voices off? I hate that shit.

Any difference between the PS3 and 360 versions?

Thanks.

Okay, after reading the Eurogamer review and watching some videos, I'm sold. This game looks awesome. Certainly much more appealing than FFXIII.

There are no differences between the 360 and PS3 versions...pick whatever version you like. Not sure if you can turn off battle voices, but you can choose jp voices with english subs or english dub. This is a big deal for me as I hate english dubs.

Not true. Thanks for the 5mb gif though.

To compare them, load them in tabs and toggle between them, the PS3 version seems to have some sort of filter to make jagged edges more smooth, the 360 version doesn't seem to have any of that but it has more colour in return.

So the game is about jumping like a down syndrome kid and pantsu?

After playing for a while, there's a lot of things about this game I like, but alas not enough to keep me wanting to play. Maybe I just don't like JRPG's anymore. :(

Like:
The more traditional layout of the towns, it's much closer to JRPG styles of old in the way you walk around, shop, talk etc. The loading between sections and indoor areas is a little too frequent, but no big deal.

It's way more appealing than FFXIII, straight off the bat.

The battle system's flow is totally cool and exciting. A massive improvement over usual turn based fare.

The actual battles are relatively un-intrusive.

Where are all the cutscenes? Win! :D

Dislike:

Why we can't have more action JRPG's? I like the combat here, but I still don't like being plunged into battlegrounds. Just a preference thing I suppose.

The overworld map system and the hexes.

The character designs. Ugh. WTF happened to all the nice anime designs in Japanese games? I like my characters with their eyes huge and glassy and noses small and pointy. I really don't like these western influenced halfway-house characters. They're ugly.

I played it for an hour and took it back to HMV the next day.

No one has answered my question yet about turning the battle voices off. Can you do it?

Yes you can, well, there's a battle voice volume control under sound options. Close enough.

Great game so far, wish I had skipped FF13 entirely and just gotten this instead. Only real complaint, 'condition critical' is the most retarded thing I've ever seen implemented into a battle system. :x

Sorry Ash, forgot to get back to you on this!

I've since parted with the game, apologies. Hope Mortified has helped you out though.

I actually ordered this a few days ago. I hope I like it.

JRPGs have left me pretty cold for a while now.

Finally started playing this...really loving it so far. Can't say I really care for the story - just a bunch of odd jobs for odd people - but the combat system totally makes this game, it's a lot of fun. Some people complain about the hexes in the world map but the hex items are so easy to find it's no problem at all for me.

So, a few questions:

1) I'm on chapter 5 and still using the weapons you start the game with. Where the hell do I buy new weapons? So far I've only found 2 basic pistols for sale: one costs an absurd amount of arena coins, and the other costs like 80% of all the cash I have with me. What I'm really looking for - another sub-machinegun - I can't find anywhere.

2) Likewise, I really need to stock up on the basic hand grenades but never saw them for sale anywhere. How can I get more of them?

3) Lastly, I've been finding a lot of random parts. The game says some are used for item synthesis, others can be dismantled for spare parts. Can I safely dismantle all those items for parts or do they have some other use?

The customization really makes the game. There's only about 10 weapons in the game total, so don't worry about it too much. The other weapons are found throughout stages and are usually unmissable providing you're doing the guild's requests.

I missed it until later, but I think you can get a new machine gun in Dakota Vein starting in chapter 5.

Would be easier to stomach with sprites (or LEGO wee dudes) and j-voices if you ask me, but I think if such things break the game for you, it means the game isn't very good.

These are anime designs (anime designs are generally western influenced), just not very good ones, Konami way. Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill games are populated by this kind of uglies. They need Kazuma Kaneko and whoever directed/animated God Hand and DMC cutscenes. Bayonetta could use the last gen Capcom ("they just do understand women") and Atlus magic in this department too. No need to blame western influences for the artistic mediocrity. I could point at many examples of manga and anime with chara-designs horrible as the fuck.

I wish all of the cutscenes were that retarded. Skipped every serious/main plot scene I could.

I don't mind the goofyness of the subject matter. That cutscene, though, is just clumsily directed, not very well animated and the character designs are a bit on the unitentionally creepy side, and overall it's just not very pleasing to watch and listen to, like discovering that person sitting next to you has a glass eye.

I'm on chapter 7 now and I still can't make head or tails of the story. In one cutscene you see a guy and a woman talking about wine for 2 minutes. Then you see the same guy staring at a little girl wearing almost nothing (I couldn't tell if it was a boy or girl until her name was mentioned).

But like I said, I couldn't care less about the story. I can access all areas of the game now and there are a lot of places to explore. Plus I found the other machinegun and bought an extra pistol...going akimbo is crazy fun.
