Shumps on PC computer?
Hi guys, I'm new here, can't find the introduction board, so I'll just do it here then. My name's Alex and I'm a shmups addict. So addicted to them that I had to start making my own as an homage to well known classics like Space Invaders, Galaxian, Galaga, etc., but with modern approach and original features.

Also, are you looking for "official" releases only, or do you want "homebrew" suggestions too? You could play a new one of the latter every five minutes from now 'til you die and still have more to go...

Good morning Alex game of the coder! We here at Shmups11.org are elated that you were bored enough to approach us about PC shmups!codergames wrote:Hi guys, I'm new here, can't find the introduction board, so I'll just do it here then. Alex, that is an impossible question for all human body robots to answer...what is the best shrimp on the PC??? Rather than the ear being able to count, you must understand the fact that there are many shmups of PC...however, because you cry with the slurping sound of the carp fish, we will tell you which is the best games to scoop. Personally I salute WARNING FOREVER because it alone collects the raw materials for shmupping.
Useful advice: When shmups is bought, beware of the unsavory seller of Ebay, for he seeks to prostitute the Visa and Mastercard for his own selfish deeds.
Another point in time is to realize that your plants are bacterium, micro tenderness in other words...so take care to wash your state of the art under garments with japanese soap powder as many times as possible.
For the second time, welcome to the forum, we help with the process of shmup mortgage so you do not forfeit a place for your cat to live and sleep! Shmups11.org promises to protect you from this danger by offering you tons of fatty deposits for you to digest about shmups!
Drink an alcoholic liquid!

Sage advices spotted in this thread.
The shmup of PC is the MAIM. It lets you play a shooter until it decides to break it.

Crimzon Clover.
And Hellsinker.
And Hellsinker.
Re: Shumps on PC computer?
Here are a few I enjoyed...
Raptor: Call of the Shadows
Steel Saviour
Warning Forever
Psyche Metal: The Bleeding (Warning: Rather Gory)
Stargunner
Jets 'N' Guns
Idinaloq
Reflex
Cho Ren Sha
You can also find PC ports of shmups like Darius Gaiden, G-Darius, Raiden II, Gradius Deluxe Pack and Layer Section, but they're all for Windows 95' era machines and generally either don't run, or run WAY too fast.

Of the few I've tried my favorite is Hydorah (similar to gradius). There's a thread on it a few pages back.

Re: Shumps on PC computer?
Hey guys! I though a PC computer is a PC computer. Maybe Windows and Linux shoot-'em-up? Is there anything else? Your personal favorite regardless of the OS and who made it. I dunno, maybe I'm just trolling like some suggested. But, nevertheless, I'd love to know, since I'm making the games. I'd love to know what people like. I'm into making retro and classic types of games on PC computer, Windows, but with modern approach and original features. I'm not making for myself, I'm making for other people to purchase and for me to get rich. (a psychological disorder of not being able to lie)

Re: Shumps on PC computer?
There's probably better money/audience in Zynga style games, if you're interested in money.

Re: Shumps on PC computer?
Maybe so, but I highly dislike Zynga style games and love to make games that are smooth, explosive with intensive action going on. I guess my work is not all about the money then.

Re: Shumps on PC computer?
Good, because Zynga-style games suck balls. And people are starting to catch up to that fact.
Also don't forget to go to development forum and show off what you got
PS: Play Crimzon Clover. Can't get much more smoother, explosiver and intensiver than that.

Re: Shumps on PC computer?
Will definitely do that
... I dream shmups during sleep.
... btw, I played FarmVille 3 minutes and totally forgot about it ... true story. A lame "copy" of a Harvest Moon.

Re: Shumps on PC computer?
Maybe you should use those shump dreams to gather ideas for your shumps.
I suggest typing any dreams you had into a journal on your PC computer for later reference.
Makes getting rich with shumps much easier.

Mate, that's exactly what I'm doing. Already finished the first one, second game's on the way. I've posted it to development section, like the worstplayer suggested.

Re: Shumps on PC computer?
welcome coder

Its worth noting that there is a special version of MAME that great for shmups, just look a few pages ahead in this shmup chat section for a thread called laggless shmup mame (or just google it) Although u will need to get the right roms to use it (torrent only, since those rom sites are too old) With all that set up you should be able to play some really top notch shooters including earlly cave games like dondonpachi and guwange.
Then theres emulation, lots of shmups for the NES (summer carnival 92 Recca), Megadrive (Musha), TG16 / PC engine (R-type/ lords of thunder) Saturn (radiant silvergun), Dreamcast (Mars Matrix), PS1 (ray crisis and r-type delta) and the PS2 (lots of Cave shmups)
For the PC itself its mostly just the indie / doujin scene which if you can be arsed searching for them, there are some really good shmups to be found, maybe lacking in polish as say a Cave game, but nontheless really solid and fun gameplay. Check out Ite7s 20 best doujin shmups video on you tube for a pointer. I personally recommend Rrootage and other ABA games shmups, Blue wish resurrection and eden's aegis by x.x games and Zen-inch, samidare, Kamui and zillion beatz. Plus check out Rockin Android's website as they have some localised doujin shmups well worth buying just for a few quid. Oh and for comercial shmups a couple did get ported to the pc, Raiden 3 and 1,2 or all 3 of the castle of the shimigami games are on pc i believe aswell.
Been a shmupper with only a PC is a great thing if youre skint like me as there are all those free or cheap indie shmups plus the roms. Just dont expect to be playing any new AAA grade shmups especially Cave on PC anytime soon. For that you reallly do need a 360 (shame im skint as allways lol)

Re: Shumps on PC computer?
Thanks TrevHead! Wow ... that's a lot of shmups
... will try to find all you mentioned and check it all out when I get the time, thanks a lot!
Any chance you could review my shmup, Invader Attack? ... it does require a 3d accelerated card with OpenGL 1.0 compatibility, its a next generation shmup with original features. I know it sounds like an ad, but what can I do, there's no other way to ask you.

Sorry but Hellsinker is the next generation shmup, yours doesn't come close to it. Youtube it up.codergames wrote:Thanks TrevHead! Wow ... that's a lot of shmups... will try to find all you mentioned and check it all out when I get the time, thanks a lot!

Re: Shumps on PC computer?
Seriously guys, I'm trying to sell you my game cheaply. It does require state-of-the-art, 3d-accelerated, OpenGL-compatible, graphic card though.
Here's the YouTubed sample of the gameplay:
Invader Attack (this is the finished game)
http://codergames.com/news/games/pc-com ... tack-game/
and Galaxide, unfinished, but its much more finished than this video shows:
http://codergames.com/news/games/galaxi ... me-sample/
Its YouTubed and posted on my site, but its much better to watch on my site as you're adding to my Alexa traffic rank and improving the importance of my site in general. Its not that my site's not important, far from that.

Re: Shumps on PC computer?
I think i'd rather use MAME Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator for that, thank you.Turn your PC computer into an arcade machine and have amazing fun!
Re: Shumps on PC computer?
lol, cheaply. $9 for a Galaga rip-off with tons of grey everywhere. There are better games on XBLIG for $1.
Galaxide looks like a step in the right direction except for one small complaint: the scrolling speed is just WAY too fast. Is there any way you could slow it down for the final release? I can't really keep track of everything going on. I'm pretty sure I counted six bullets on the screen at one point. Dude, that's just way too difficult for people to play.
