Question about the Taito G-Card ver. of RayCrisis...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Fired up my Taito G-Net mobo with a copy of RayCrisis. Upon starting a new gaming session, the CPU only allows you to select either Wave Rider-01 or WR-02 but not WR-03 fightercraft (even though the top fourteen scores for all three fightercraft are listed during the demo/attract screen game sessions). What are the guidelines or keypoints to "unlocking" this "secret" locked WR-03 fightercraft in the first place?

Also, the CPU does keep track of how many times you play RC if you enter in the same high score intials + secret code input which allows you the ability to select the original pre-selected stages or choose a custom made stage progression one (this is quite different compared to the PSX version that allows for selecting any stage for the 1st choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice and the final 4th choice).

In both the JPN and USA versions of RayCrisis on the PSX platform have all three WaveRiders selectable at the start of a serious gaming session but the original Taito G-Card version of the same name does not (on default settings).

It's nice to have dual player option on the G-Card version of RC compared to the single player only endowed version of RC on the PSX. (This is the same deal found on the G-Card version of Takumi's Night Raid with dual player option from the get-go & only just one player for the PSX port of NR.)

Very interesting to learn in the G-Card version of RC that the "real ending" is what leads to the events known as "Operation Raystorm". So the events that take place in Raystorm seems to conclude the RayForce/RayStorm/RayCrisis trilogy.

Thank you in advance for your informative answers...

This may be of some help: http://www.cave-stg.com/forum/index.php?topic=236.0

I still do not understand this game at all. I have no idea what the power-ups do. Sometimes you will perform a special shot which isn't the same as bombing. I also haven't played for a while which doesn't help matters.

You should input the same initials each time. This will allow you for more routes to be available. I do remember that you can't pick a route that has the same map over and over. Good luck and if you find out anything, post it here.

Thanks for the informative link, zlk. I guess I'll have to get to TLB, defeat it and see what "unlocks" the aforementioned WR-03 fightercraft. Playing this G-Card version of RC sure does raise some interesting questions about it's gameplay, game mechanics and secrets. I've noticed that if you lock-on on certain parts of an end-stage boss, your bomb gauge slowly increases until it reaches maximum capacity (assuming that you've used a bomb beforehand).

I like the arcade's smoother transitions from one stage to next and from stage to boss, as opposed to the thinly disguised loading screens in the PS1 version.

Unfortunately, the only way I can raise my chances of playing the arcade version above 0 is to fly to Japan.
