Predators, relax... it's good!!

Post by Strider77 »

I saw Predators tonight and was really happy with it. It's got lot's of fan service and the characters were not annoying. Any that were mildly uninteresting were killed off and any humor was in character and not a turn off.

I'm not saying it's the most amazing film ever, but neither was the 1st one. Don't get me wrong, the 1st one is one of my favorite movies ever. But if we are being honest it's not like it's going to get an oscar.... but WHO CARES!!!

The Predators look great and the movie is very similar to the 1st. Even down to that great score from the 1st one. There is even a mild but very nifty twist later on in the movie. It ends with a very easy door opened for a follow up. I'll gladly put this blu-ray next to the 1st one when it's released. Now I don't want to over hype it to much so you'll be let down but it was better than I was expecting and hoped for. It's something fans of the 1st will dig alot.... unless you read to much BS on the internet and want to hate.

I suppose I could nit pick at it but I'd have to really make myself do it.... I don't feel any need to do so. The early middle act is a little slow but it's nothing to worry over. ENJOY!! Let's hope that Alien prequel delivers and we can forget about those versus movies and poor sequels forever.

I'd give it a 4/5.

It does fail in some areas though. Pacing is rather suspect as the crew need to get to trust each other. When something eventually happens its like a flashback of the original movie because they reworked a scene from the original using the same facial expression and dialogue. There are at least 4 or 5 parts that when the action started I said "I wonder if xxxx happens next?" and it did.

I was actually waiting for that scene in the trailer that never came (the iconic laser sight beams).

Fishburne was under used as a big name actor and his role was pretty weak really.

The Predators seemed weak to me. Compared to the first movie where he is strong and untouchable for most of the movie. In this movie there are Predators in multiple numbers that struggle in their own terrain. I never really felt like the movie left Earth either. As much as it tries to convince the audience they are not on Earth, it just didn't convince me at all. Say compared to Avatar that convinced me in 2 minutes, Predators fails that in the whole length of the movie.

On the plus side, your first viewing will likely be one of curiosity. You will await a climax of hunter vs hunter with tecnological warfare and tribal slashings. But will you get that or not? You will have to see.

I was glad about that....

I also enjoyed the Yakuza scene that tips its hat to billy's last stand scene. I totally ate up the fan service.

It's a bit of a guilty pleasure... but I wasn't worrying over it at all during my time in the theater. The 1st one didn't have any important social commentary, but it didn't need it either for it to be fun.

I'm a big fan of the first film (of course it deserved an Oscar!) which is why I'm sceptical about this and any other 80's hollywood reboot.

But on the above recommendations I might just gamble one more time and pay the entry for this, even if Rodriguez is more miss than hit.

Cool -- might check it out next weekend. For some bizarre reason it opens up here almost the same time as the states.

you guys would normally be buying the DVD from hong kong about a month after it comes out in the cinema in the US and it would still not be out in the cinemas in JP.

The Russian's have already done it with a bodysuit. Same technology that will be powering screens that can be folded like a piece of material not so far in the future.

Finally checked out this new fangled Predators flick today, it's very well made. Introduces some new creatures in this film related to the Predator universe. This new film totally ignores the fact that 20th Century Fox studio backed both Alien Vs. Predator 1 & 2 films and continues right after the events of Predator 1 & 2 flicks in the on-going Predator universe timeline (although no real time/date is mentioned to clue in the movie audience beforehand). Plus if you watch the ending credits, you'll see that it was shot on location in both Texas and Hawaii. Mr. Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios had a hand in producing it as well. Their next film due out is based on the cool fake movie trailer of the same name, Machete, as shown in the Grindhouse double feature flick by Tarantino/Rodriguez collaborated effort.

neorichie1971 wrote: I was actually waiting for that scene in the trailer that never came (the iconic laser sight beams).

This particular scene was made just for the Predators film trailer. Of course, it's always a given that this scene was cut on the editing floor but could possibly be viewed as a deleted scene on the upcoming Blu-Ray/DVD release of Predators five to six months down the road (20th Century Fox could end up releasing it sooner if they wish do so). If you do a freeze-frame analysis of how many of those iconic laser sight beams are placed on the main character, it's 14. Leads the unsuspecting movie trailer viewer to conclude are there that many Predators creatures roaming around on said planet...or not? Watch it & find out for yourself.

It's well known that the major film studios are adding the final touches to the mass-produced Blu-ray/DVD versions of their films when they first hit the movie theaters worldwide. That's a given.

As usual, it's the world famous special effects group that goes by the name of KNB EFX Group, whom did the impressive Predator EFX. You'll see if you watch the ending credits. Same special EFX group behind the gruesome body parts EFX shown in both Eli Roth's Hostel & Hostel Part II horror flicks.

Well I just saw it tonight, and I'm really impressed! Predator is probably tied for my favourite film ever, so I just loved the huge amounts of fan service in this down to the score. Even the end credits music made my day.

Just about everything that was great about Predator is here in this film. As a film, it's of course nowhere near as great as Predator but who expects any film to be?

POTENTIAL SPOILERS.....

The Yakuza and knife brandishing rapist were my fav characters.

I haven't seen it yet, but isn't the general idea that they're supposed to be in a place that's almost exactly like Earth?

Are there any rape scenes in the movie?? I'm not in love with gore, but I sure as heck don't want to watch any rape scenes.

Saw it today and it was okay. Was fun when I recognized Topher Grace, I didn't know he was in this. Found it oddly difficult to not think of him as Eric.

The yakuza's fight was pretty cool.
