Aero Fighters 2 & 3 (Sonic Wings 2 & 3)
Re: Aero Fighters 2 & 3 (Sonic Wings 2 & 3)
Okay, updated again. Pulstar is on there now. Sorry, didn't see you there. LGB is in the right place I think. I'll try to stay on top of this a little better. Message me if you want an update; I don't visit much anymore.

Aero Fighters 2
Ed Oscuro - 443,400 - Spanky - 6 (Sydney anyway) - MAME Plus! 0.138u1r4683-20100528
Aero Fighters 3
Ed Oscuro - 674,200 - Blazers (P61) - 5? Normandy beach? (two after bonus round) - MAME Plus! 0.138u1r4683-20100528
Ha ha, are Team Blazer skyjackers? They don't seem to know who's in the plane at the start. Anyway I laughed heartily at "Who, or what, is that? Maybe it's just shy."

I'm Glinda. Hi, folks.
Moreso the better. Blazers kick serious ass. Also, where you ended (The Beach St5) is the easier route I think. Going to England/Britain, the Pancake bonus round, and finally the sand squid boss stage is essentially a wasted run in my books. Additionally, SW3 seems to have zero input lag (MAME32 .100).Ed Oscuro wrote:Ha ha, are Team Blazer skyjackers? They don't seem to know who's in the plane at the start.
Here's a couple old scores:
Aero Fighters 2
RFP - 537,400 - Hi-en - 6 - MAME
Aero Fighters 3
RFP - 1,391,200 - Black Widow - 7 - MAME

Easier or harder?
Sonic Wings 3 (Japan MVS Ver.1)

RFP - 1,608,600 - Black Widow - 2-1 - MAME
My other score is from Aero Fighters 3 (Europe MVS Ver.2) and thanks again to the AEX guys, I was compelled to examine Gemant's Mao-Mao run for further improvement. As it stood, I couldn't find anything beyond what I already knew but I noticed that in his run, using a Japan bios, that the enemies were weaker and at times shooting less off. I do take a different route from him no less (A or left instead of B or right to begin) but end on the same route so there is fair comparison. All the same, it's nice to clear the loop finally.

Sonic Wings 3 (Japan MVS Ver.1)

RFP - 2,061,500 - Black Widow - 2-5 - MAME
Strange run but it definitely solidifies my position that this SW3 bios is easier than the EuroV2 AF3 bios which I had previously used.
I took my usual A route to start but somehow got 1-5B (England, Pancake, Squid) and it was the first time that's happened on SW3. I was really fortunate as the sand squid boss was really manageable, possibly the 2nd time I've ever beaten it and first time 1-bomb, no-missing the entire route. I was feeling good and then it got better by facing Soh-Takeko! First time that's ever happened too although I did die as I was trying to milk the mahjong tiles waiting too long for the mad spam. In the loop I took my usual A route again, and made it to the 5A boss (large aircraft turns into robot) which has the same safe spot as in the first loop. The run ended on the final laser attack of the robot.

Aero Fighters 3
Ed Oscuro - 720,300 - Blazers (P61) - 4 (after bonus round, other path than I took before) - 0.138u1r4686-20100613
Hmm, not much of an improvement. I think I've figured out how to switch between paths anyway. Not sure which I like least...the first path (the one I took now) canyon stage (with AA guns all over) is tougher than the other one (with the two distinctive groups of AA guns that drop golds next to the vertical takeoff machines) but then that one has a boss I don't like. arg

Aero Fighters 3
Ed Oscuro - 885,300 - Blazers (P61) - 4 (after bonus round) - 0.138u1r4686-20100613
Desert bonus stage good. Sea bonus stage bad (then again, maybe I don't run it like a pro yet, but it seems like a lot of trouble for little payoff).
I guess the game just alternates between paths on restart.

The first course selection never changes. Sub base (aircraft carrier boss), desert tank bonus stage, & all air enemy canyon stage is always to the left. Always. Desert with ground enemies (tank boss), large aircraft "P"s bonus stage, & London/England (rocket boss) is always to the right.Ed Oscuro wrote:I guess the game just alternates between paths on restart.
I believe there is something more to the second course selection on 5, but I don't have much issue there since I'm generally always picking my preferred route (to the right).
The last phase or course selection, to determine the final boss for the loop is fixed in stone too. Right is asteroid/Mars, left is underwater/ship graveyard.
This is correct for the first loop, unless you use Mao-Mao, who to my knowledge is the only one who can really make a dent in the large aircraft bonus stage (1-3B). Otherwise, 2-3B is the more beneficial route points wise in the 2nd loop as opposed to the desert tank bonus stage (2-3A) which as I've seen is very hard to get 10000pts per medal thanks to them coming from below versus from above. Not only but the quantity is much lower (as can be seen in Gemant's run).Desert bonus stage good. Sea bonus stage bad (then again, maybe I don't run it like a pro yet, but it seems like a lot of trouble for little payoff).

Ed Oscuro - 985,300 - Blazers (P61) - 5? (England stage) - 0.138u1r4686-20100613
Left route from beginning. Too bad I didn't know how to deal with the England stage boss - bombed my way through every section until the nose cone.
