new to shumps help!

Post by Roll »

hi. so the other day i was at my friends house and we played halo 3 and then he got this crazy chinese import game.
so he changed the game and i was blown away lol.
it was pretty weird. you played some girl and in the first stage you fighted against a trex lol.
really colorful game - and he showed me a video of one of the later stages (this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQZuidKexBQ )
so two questions: what is this games name and is the video legit? looks like he is getting hit all the time!

anyways so then i asked my friend what these games are called and he said shumps (or shmups, can't remember lol).
this all looks pretty awesome, and i really wanna play games like this.

so does anyone have any recommendations which games i should check out first?
until now i only have ikaruga on my xbox360 and omg its so cool.

That particular game would be Mushihimesama Futari, there's a whole topic about it here:

http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=29164

As for that particular video, yep, that's the real deal, HOWEVER, the only way you'll get to that point is by fighting the final boss on the game's hardest difficulty setting (Ultra). If you play Original, things are far more manageable, but of course, still difficult. One thing to note about this (and several other "bullet hell" games) is that the hitbox, ie the area that can actually be damaged, is actually far smaller than the ship/character itself. In Futari's case, the shining point in the center is the only area that you need to worry about not hitting.

If you want to check that game out, the import is region-free and will work on any 360. There's also Espgaluda II (standard edition is region-free as well), and DeathSmiles, which just got a US release. There is also Raiden IV and Raiden Fighters Aces available in the US as well, both are great games, but aren't quite as manic as the last few games I mentioned.

Anyways, I would HIGHLY recommend any of the games I listed. Ikaruga is a great starting point, but it's far from being my favorite.

I think my friend played the original mode then.
He is pretty good at this game, he used only 4 continues to beat the game! 8)

Does this game have easy achievements btw? I'm pretty much OCD when it comes to gamerscore.

Besides, any more games one could recommend?
I read somewhere that there is one emulator called MAMA.

Try lurking a bit before you muddy the waters. I haven't read the main forum in months because it's filled with shitposts, but then I see this. You're never going to actually enjoy any shooting games, nor are you ever going to get good at them. How can I judge this? You couldn't even read the title of the site, much less memorize the first stage of Espgaluda.

Here, have a nice glass of derp.

Here's google, for all your dumb-questioning needs,

and here's the search function, which sucks dicks but will point you in the right direction,

and there's a stack of stickies in the main shmups chat forum for some nice, light reading.
