HRAP EX-SE help

Post by vld99 »

Hello all, hopefully someone can help me with a trouble I just started having tonight. :(

So I was playing Mushihimesama Futari on 360 with my HRAP EX-SE, when all of a sudden while playing my character kept going down. So I aborted my run only to find out that the game itself was being spammed with 'down' input. After rebooting the 360, everything works except the down input, which is non-responsive in the dashboard, and gets spammed in-game.

First off, did anyone encounter such a problem before? Does anyone have experience with trying to get the warranty from Hori? Is it more trouble than it's worth? Basically any advice would really help. I'm pretty bummed out :/

Thanks.

Does it sound/feel like the microswitches in the joystick are acting normally? If anything is actually broken I'd expect it to be pretty easy to fix (assuming the Hori warranty doesn't do it all for you). I doubt it's a faulty PCB issue so you'd probably just need to replace the LS-32-01.

They're poorly assembled IMO (the soldering on the microswitches at least).

Check the connections on the top microswitch (as this activates down).

Thanks for the quick response, I appreciate it.

The stick itself does not feel any different than before, and still 'clicks' when moving it down, so it seems like it would be an issue with the signal being sent. This is my first stick (and only 4 months old... :() so I'm not really familiar with the internal components. I suppose opening the stick would void the warranty, right? I guess I should try contacting Hori first.

Should that fail or be too expensive of an option, if anyone has how-to guides/pointers on how to go about fixing an issue like this, it would be really great.

Assuming it's just a problem with the actual stick, it's very easy to fix. As long as you know how to use a screwdriver, at least.

You'd just need to order a Seimitsu LS-32-01 replacement joystick and swap out the affected one. It'll be good as new. Four months of owning HRAP EX-SE variant joystick ain't very long considering such Japanese arcade parts (both Sanwa & Seimitsu) are built to take rigorous abuse for a longer period of time in them famed world-class Japanese game centers. It's always good to keep a spare replacement on hand in case if the need arises.

PCEFX, your post seems to contradict itself. There's no way Sanwa/Seimitsu parts should be breaking down after just four months, and for light personal use I'd expect them to basically last a lifetime. Why, then, would there be a need to have replacements on hand?

Let's say that if you want to change the joystick to Sanwa or later on, change it back to Seimitsu -- it wouldn't hurt to have some spares on hand to do so. Or if you have a candy cab setup, then it'd make sense to have some spares on hand.

You're really getting ahead of yourself here - I don't see anything in this thread that warrants buying replacement hardware yet.

Have you had any luck getting warranty service from Hori? As far as I can tell, there's nothing they can do to check to see if you've opened the case or not. Just make sure you open it from the top; nothing useful comes out of opening it from the bottom.

Upon reading the back of the HRAP EX-SE factory box, there is no mention that this particular XBox 360 joystick comes with an manufacturer's warranty for the USA market. It would be wise of Hori USA to print a warranty on the back of their future HRAP releases for the USA market to protect their own interests/assets.

There is, however, a statement:

Distributed by Hori (U.S.A.), Inc.
Torrance, CA 90503

Visit us at: http://www.hori.jp/us

or contact us at: infous@hori.jp (e-mail address)

--------------------------------

Here's the link to the Hori manufacturer's warranty for it's products purchased in the USA: http://www.hori.jp/us/warranty.html It does mention that all Hori products sold in the USA come with a 90-day (3 month) manufacturer's warranty.

"Defects Beyond the Warranty Period
For defects to any HORI products that occur beyond the warranty period (90 days), with a fee,
HORI, at its option, will repair or replace the product." -- statement listed at the bottom of the Hori USA warranty list site.
