You can get the game now before it becomes rare, and then purchase the console when you're ready. Besides, you'll be much better off with a new one anyway, since it's supposed to prevent the RRoD due to better manufacturing processes.ROBOTRON wrote:I want to play this game and never bought an Xbox 360 due to that red ring bs. I'll second this, Microplay is where i got BlazBlue last year when no canadian retailer had stock. Part of the reason it that they often buy direct from American suppliers rather than local distributors. Of course, today you're pretty much fucked by default.KindGrind wrote:Try Microplay. Would you mind explaining it or linking me somewhere that does? Anything to make the boss easier would help a ton on that stage.Kiken wrote:After starting a really poor run I decided to just screw around, so I tested out the volcano stage boss glitch... and it still works in this version.

I don't know if it necessarily makes the boss easier per se, but it is one of those "LOL@CAVE Q&A" moments (it's a hold-over from the PCB, BTW).TaygetaVendetta wrote:Would you mind explaining it or linking me somewhere that does? The glitch is a weird deadzone that occurs during the flame-wall pattern. After the initial purple-bullets and falling rocks sequence, Bavaria swipes it's tail and generates pillars of fire. During the attack, stop firing and move into the upper-left corner of the screen. The flame wall will clearly hit you but not register contact. Then simply hold right through all of the flame pillars to exit unscathed.

If anyone feels like groaning a bit, IGN has a review up (apologies if this has been posted already):
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/110/1103150p1.html
You have all the standard complaints about how it's too short, it's simple, it should be a $15 downloadable title, etc.

Doesn't help that the $30 option was canceled.

So I grabbed a couple extras as well. After all it's the first Cave game release in the US AND it comes with a really cool faceplate that not even the Japan LE included....seems like a collectible to me. Then I saw this in the NeoGAF post.....Game Rogue wrote:Deathsmiles x2emphatic wrote:So nobody who's bought the NA release has a camera? Pics people!

Never even occurred to me that MS just made faceplates obsolete....crap....once my Elite dies this will be a pointless item....

Massive LOLs at the faceplates not fitting on the new consoles. Nice timing Aksys.

do the new consoles even have removable faceplates?

Re: Death Smiles: Countdown to North America Invasion
You see this is why me and others get so pissed about bad reviews of shmups. Because you see this guy gave it really good score so people bought it, the people who wouldn't normally buy it our trying and enjoying it, not only strengthening the hope for more NA releases but is also making the community bigger. That's why trying to get big time gaming journalism sites and mags to improve there understanding of the genre and get our favorite games higher scores is a fight worth fighting.Exarion wrote:http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=15295

I did great so much water and milk that I threw up when I was little.
Re: Death Smiles: Countdown to North America Invasion
Absolutely. The big sites just don't treat the genre the same way it treats others. When they review an FPS or an RPG (for example), they get a guy who plays, enjoys, and understands FPSes or RPGs. When they review a shmup, they get somebody who doesn't play or understand shmups in any great detail, and we end up getting reviews with phrases like "The fans of this genre will like it, but I found it simple and it had poor graphics and you can beat it in 30 minutes and it's only really worth $10, not $50". They need to get educated reviewers who understand and appreciate these more niche genres to review those games.Dale wrote:You see this is why me and others get so pissed about bad reviews of shmups. I got my 360 in November 2008. It's yet to bleed red light on me.moozooh wrote:You can get the game now before it becomes rare, and then purchase the console when you're ready. Don't have a link on hand, but some site had pictures of the new 360 taken apart and the front of the system looks very difficult to get off, so I kind of doubt it.roker wrote:do the new consoles even have removable faceplates?
Plus faceplates of the old 360 design were never really popular and in the last year there really hadn't been many new ones produced. Tons were offered as pre-order incentives in 2007 and a few in 2008, but since then theres been very few made. Its a shame faceplates really never took off, I really enjoyed the idea of customizing the appearance of the console. I love my two Eternal Sonata and one Deathsmiles faceplates.
If you have an older 360 you could just send it in to get repaired if it RRODs. Its covered under warranty for 3 years.

Not sure if any companies outside of MS knew about the slim.bcass wrote:Massive LOLs at the faceplates not fitting on the new consoles. Nice timing Aksys.

I don't think it's that they don't fit. The slims don't have interchangeable faceplates. I've always thought faceplates were retarded anyway.

The only reason I put my faceplate on was because it made a very convenient way to keep which Xbox 360 is Japanese between my 360 and my brother's US-360.

Re: Death Smiles: Countdown to North America Invasion
If you used the Deathsmiles NA faceplate for this, I find this somewhat ironic since Deathsmiles NA doesn't work on Japanese consoles.dieKatze88 wrote:The only reason I put my faceplate on was because it made a very convenient way to keep which Xbox 360 is Japanese between my 360 and my brother's US-360.

Still nice little collectors item though I suppose. Probably giving Gamestop a call tomorrow to see if they'll have any copies in but I doubt it since I'm out in the stix. Any major retail stores selling it? (Sorry if it's been mentioned.)

Just broke down and ordered via gamestop.com with "overnight" shipping (allow 1 business day for processing
). I try to avoid frivolously spending money before the semester starts, but hey, it's a hori, it's Cave, and I still don't have enough games to justify owning a 360, so fuck it. I can probably borrow a camera if there's grievous shipping damage to document.

Re: Death Smiles: Countdown to North America Invasion
as far as reviews go, i think the only legit complaints about the game would be.
A)Lack of midbosses
B)Lack of arranged/remixed soundtrack option

Gamestop's shipping was fine. The box is exactly the length of the game which is a little questionable. Mine came with no visible damage.Ex-Cyber wrote:Just broke down and ordered via gamestop.com with "overnight" shipping (allow 1 business day for processing). This game is crack. Loving every second of it.
Re: Death Smiles: Countdown to North America Invasion
Yea it finally shipped today. Says I won't have it until the 6th yet. Sad thing is I payed the $5 or whatever for shipping on it. Even sadder thing is that I just bought Blur from Amazon when it was on sale 2 days ago for $30. Used the Super Saver free shipping and it shipped to me the exact same time.StarCreator wrote:When did you preorder, and what shipping method did you choose? My order was placed on April 27 with two day shipping (Amazon Prime) and it shipped out yesterday. It should be here tomorrow.

I have a friend who works at Best Buy in the product management, they aren't carrying it. There's not many other retailers out there that sell games besides like...Wal-Mart or one of those other stores that sells everything under the sun, and they don't often get many lesser popular titles in those stores.Slump wrote:Any major retail stores selling it? I'm not saying I beat it drunk. I was getting crushed. I'm saying that it was a solid clear to get me into the game, it was well earned.
