new tate addict...

Post by iluvmonsterz »

i have been playing shmups for a long friggin time..but only on home consoles and randomly at a few arcades so i never really got into the tate thing(because i never played in this mode enough to realize how frigging good it is). After reading a thread about tate rigs here i decided to go find myself a crt monitor for the ole dreamcast. after some fruitless internet searching(shipping was the real problem) i hit up a local pc repair shop and low and behold the dude had a 21 inch sony trini sitting around and gave it to me for free!!! i couldnt wait to get that bastard home and see if it worked.
i picked up a power cord for it on the way home and hauled that heavy fucker in my house. i had a rolling wire cart that i used for art supplies that i cleaned off and plopped the monitor down on, it fit perfectly...i plugged in all the necessary crap and got ready to power it up..the moment of truth. would it work? it did!! it looked great! it even had a sensor that tells it to brighten or dim according to the ambient light in the room(pretty sweet on a monitor of this age)!! i must say that i ve not had this much fun playing shikigami no shiro 2 before..tate is everything you guys claimed it would be. i shoulda listened to the shmuppers here years ago!! thnx!!!

Shiki was one of my first Tate experiences as well.. Its never too late to TATE.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

you are soooooo right. part of my problem was my obsession with huge televisions...but i have sorta noticed that vert shmups seem easier for me on stuff a bit smaller while horizontals are ok on 46 inch and above monitors. i deffinatly need to pick up the dc shmups i am missing now!! to bad gundird 2 isnt vga :(

i honestly love that game for the theme and art...i know most of you guys are all about the gameplay but a game has to strike a chord with me on a visual level for me to really get into it. plus you control people not ships!!!
