Sorry to start yet another thread about scalers. I have a CYP CM-345S which converts SCART RGB to VGA. For the most part it works fine, the quality is OK but not great, but it doesn't work at all with Saturn, Neo Geo CD and it has problems with Mega Drive (flickering in some display modes at 50Hz, doesn't work at 60Hz).
I have been looking at converters which output a HDMI signal, which will at least eliminate the problem of incompatible VGA signals and might produce a slightly better picture assuming the scaler does a good job.
Here are two units I have been looking at (they both output 1080p):
Coosis HD Universal - £85 - http://www.keene.co.uk/electronics/mult ... de=HDUSPRO
CYP SY-1080SC - £173.29 - http://lektropacks.co.uk/view_product_s ... sub1=&show
Quite a difference in price. Are either any good? Is the second one worth the extra money? Any better suggestions?
And most importantly: will they work with 60Hz Saturn, NGCD and MD?
SCART RGB to HDMI scalers
Re: SCART RGB to HDMI scalers
You're having almost the exact same issues I had a few months back. I've been obsessing over this stuff for a while until I finally found the right combination.
Go with the Coosis. There is maybe one catch, you MUST make certain that your Saturn lead is of high quality or else you may get a flickering or black picture. Raven Games Online sell decent Saturn SCART RGB cables. I should inform you the Coosis might produce some potential milli-second lag though for all systems, but it's hardly noticeable. Trust me, I'm saying this and I play fighters like crazy! Coosis also upscales a stronger S-Video signal.
If you live in the US make sure you get a compatible power supply.

Re: SCART RGB to HDMI scalers
Thanks for the info. I will try out the Coosis scaler. It's good to know that the Saturn will work with it.
Re: SCART RGB to HDMI scalers
I bought the Coosis and I'm very pleased with it. There doesn't seem to be any perceptible delay when playing any games. I tested Raiden on PC Engine which requires quick reactions and it worked very well. Picture quality is better than plugging the SCART directly in to a Sony Bravia TV (I will be using it on my monitor). The menus and mode switching is quite slow, but it shouldn't be an issue once you've set it up.
Re: SCART RGB to HDMI scalers
For once on this forum I helped someone else out whereas usually I'm the one in need of assistance.
It was my pleasure. Nice to know there isn't any conceivable button lag. Honestly I couldn't find any myself and I play fighting games like crazy. It was my friend who brought the mere thought of lag to my attention. Said he encountered lag while playing Super Mario All Stars (SNES) although he wound up blaming it on my old SNES controller instead of the Coosis. What made me wonder was the previous installment in the Coosis series, their 720p Universal HD converter was reported to show some milli-sec lag. But that was an earlier build, the 1080p one is the upgrade.
It makes games look smooth as butter. The slow menus are annoying at first but nothing too hindering.

Re: SCART RGB to HDMI scalers
Thanks Rock Man for all the info! I bought a Chinese converter (Scart -> HDMI) and it like it can only find CVBS(composite) signals even though RGB should be auto-detected. So it looks like crap..
Now, through reading the thread more carefully and looking into the manual more closely, I understand that the setup will work well with MD, SNES, NES etc. I guess I'll get one of these Coosis converters

Re: SCART RGB to HDMI scalers
Other than the branding, that Coosis converter looks identical to this $50 non-branded converter. I'm assuming they really are the same thing.
