I was playing some NES games yesterday and I -finally- beat Kid Niki. I've been meaning to do that for... about 12 years maybe? Better late than never I suppose.
I also took a look at the Japanese version and noticed some amusing differences in the sprites. Niki himself (well, Yancha-maru is his real name) looks different, and the masked enemies have different faces. I'm assuming the "FOOL" spouting old man says "baka" or something else in level 5 too.
Seriously one of my fave NES games, from back in the day. I had to rent it, back when my parents wouldn't let me own a nintendo for fear that I would do nothing other than play the thing

Never a better time to go back than the present!
Seriously, it's still fun, and other than the last two levels, it's not as difficult as I seemed to remember. The last level is quite tough, but with some practice and luck you should be fine.
Heh. This along with Ninja Gaiden was a game I could never beat as a kid. Had to break out the ol' NES about a decade later when i was in my early 20's to finally beat the two. Kid Niki starts out so freakin easy but manages to get a little tricky torwards the end.
