Component -> (HDMI/DVI) Adapter question

Post by dongle »

Hi!

I have a Dell U2331H monitor which has 10ms of input lag over DVI. I'd like to hook my PS2 up to it via component to play some import shooters. I've seen that the HD Box Pro is a good component -> VGA converter, but I'm not sure if the analog-digital conversion in my monitor will introduce significant lag. So I'm looking at component -> HDMI converters, which can be used with an hdmi->dvi pin adapter.

Options:
XCM HDMI Blaster, made by a games accessories company that advertises an 8ms lag on their component -> vga adapter. Makes me think that they pay attention to lag info, but the lack of lag specs on the HDMI device raises suspicion.

A Coosis HD Universal knockoff. The Coosis HD converter allegedly adds only one frame of lag, but I have no way of knowing if this is actually the same device, or if it's just a similar case.

Another ebay special. Very little information on this one.

Monoprice to the rescue?

Which HDMI converter should I choose? Or should I take a risk with a VGA adapter on my monitor?

Oh, and thanks to Fudoh for his highly informative site.

I'm willing to bet that most those devices you listed add a 2 frame delay, maybe even 3 for the slower ones or the ones doing more processing.
Maybe fudoh or RGB32E know more about it...

P.S. I'd love to know what scaling chips sit in some of those things, especially that "ebay special".

I accept that lag will be introduced, but I'd rather introduce 1-2 frames of lag as opposed to 6+. And unfortunately none of the devices have lag specs available, nor was I able to find any user-reported lag tests :-/ I also checked SRK.
