Finding Nexzr at Wolfgames for $60 when it was going for $90+ for the full version caused me to buy a Duo-R
Galactic Attack $6 .. for the price of change in my couch I got my favorite shmup of all time
Man wasn't Mars Matrix only $20 when it first came out?

Re: post the steals you've gotten for games
Many moons ago, scored a barebones Seibu Kaihatsu SP1 cart of Viper Phase 1 U.S.A. off of eBay for a mere $20.00 USD. Just had to pay a bit more for S&H.
Paid $31.00 USD for a new and sealed copy of the Japanese PS2 port of Success' Psyvariar Complete: Capture Box off of eBay. Of course, it came with the included Region 2 Reverse Babel Label DVD of Psyvariar Appreciate DVD Vol. 1. Awesome to watch it in tate. It only stated my appetite to get both Taito G-Card carts of Psyvariar Medium Unit and Psyvariar Revision later on for the Taito G-Net arcade motherboard platform.
Paid a scant 98 cents for a brand new Atari 2600 Pole Position boxed game set from a local 98 cent store (when they used to be in business).
Paid just 48 yen for a brand new & sealed Arcade CD-Rom2 game of Fatal Fury for the PC Engine Duo from Akihabara's crazy cheap-ass Mario's Media Traders shop back in the day. They were practically giving them away at that price. ^_~
Bought a brand new & sealed copy of the rare Treasure produced Rakugaki Showtime PSX game import for 3,000 yen from a big Japanese Toys-R-Us store...ending up trading it for an ESP.Ra.De PCB.

Yep, I had to pre-order my USA region DC Mars Matrix copy from Gamestop with a five dollars reservation fee to guarantee a copy. They only got in like five copies total that day -- four were reserved & the fifth one was up for grabs. Got a call from Gamestop saying that it was finally in. Just had to pay the remaining difference of $14.99 + tax back in 2001. The original arcade CPS2 PCB version of MM is cool as well.louisg wrote:Finding Nexzr at Wolfgames for $60 when it was going for $90+ for the full version caused me to buy a Duo-R

Bought a glitchy Korean region Nostrodamus PCB for $30 from a fellow respected shmupper and managed to get it working 100% again by pressing on the PCB when booted up. It usually goes for more than that indeed.

Re: post the steals you've gotten for games
Well I worked for Gamestop years ago and came across a cool little feature in our system that allowed for product inventory searches company wide. The feature would return a list of stores with the item(s) in stock and quantities on hand. Using this feature I found about a dozen stores that had random import and domestic Sega Saturn game sitting around in inventory (mostly forgotten in their back rooms). I'd then contact the stores and request they transfer the product to us for sale. Because these games were all discontinued from inventory years back I was able to pick up multiple copies of the US version of Magic Knight Rayearth for $15 (like 8 copies or so if I remember correctly), two copies of X-Men vs Street Fighter w/Ram Cart for $15 each, Dragon Ball Z Legend for $5, Castlevania:SOTN for around $10, Metal Slug and Pocket Fighter each for around $10 and a host of other such deals. And these were (with a couple of exceptions) all still factory sealed.
I don't recall any shmups, but it helped me round out my Saturn collection nicely, some were sold to regular customers who frequented the store and were into imports, and the ones I didn't want/need went up on Ebay and I spent most of that on Dreamcast titles. And the crazy thing was that it wasn't just a few games, it was dozens of them...just sitting there...the idiots who worked in the stores having no idea what they were worth. In fact the only item I couldn't get transferred was a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga that was at a store where the manager wanted me to give him $100 for him to ship it to our store. I told him to buy it himself and Ebay it if he wanted something for it...why he hadn't already was beyond me but I wasn't about to line his pockets with a $100 ransom. Otherwise every other store was glad to get rid of them. Usually they'd ask something stupid like "you can actually sell these?"....fools....no, no one wants a factory sealed copy of the Saturn version of Symphony of the Night for $15.
I grabbed a few decent PSX finds as well, but nothing topped the Saturn Salvage that I did....rescuing beloved classics from idiot Gamestops and taking them safely to loving, gamer-friendly homes.

Shikigami No Shiro on Xbox for a measly £3.76. Shame it doesn't work on the Jap 360 though :S
Re: post the steals you've gotten for games
a local game store here was selling Raiden Project in the old longbox for $3 last week. even though I have it downloaded as a CD image, nothing beats having a copy of it. and surprisingly my almost dead playstation booted it up perfectly.
