Dead crt?

Post by =SNC= »

The crt was switched on and it was playing dodonpachi doj attract mode, I was finishing to upload something on the pc so I don't know what happened but after a while I looked at the monitor and it was like this:

Sound still works though and it recognize RGB signal (i.e. chance aspect ratio to 16:9). I don't know a fuck about crts but for me it's a goner, glad to be mistaken.

Maybe I should try to kick it xD

It doesn't look like the monitor is dead, since its displaying the video channel/input overlay fine. It looks like the monitor inputs are messed up (or your PS2 output?)

Yeah, looks like the monitor can't sync to the source... Have you tried your PS2 on another display?
I have seen the same symptom on various badly soldered modded consoles. The sega saturn comes to mind with a broken pin79 on the VDP1. Meaning, on a worst case scenario it could very well be your console's gfx chip.

Thank you for your answers!

Hmm, how can I explain it?
The youtube video was registered with the CRT not being fed any signal. I also tryed other consoles and switching on-off the thing but the results were the same.

Anyway it is working at the moment  . Don't know why, I waited some time, switched the thing on, got a big red screen and then black like it was everything ok. Tryed to hook up ps2 and worked fine. O_o. No idea why though. LOL

Still same problem *without* a source connected to it? This is indeed funny, I'm not Video technician but I've never seen that symptom on a TV without any signal plugged in it. :o
By the looks of it the tube really appears to be fine, like Dave K. already mentioned.
Probably some simple components on the chassis just need replacing, but good luck on finding out which ones... IMHO it's not really worth it, personally I would just get a new one.
