Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP and PS3
Well, I did have this thread called "Anyone played it?". Well, no one responded, and I have now played the actual game. Well, I just got it yesterday.
Very good game. If you're like me, and get tired of all the cutscenes, the space limitations of the UMD comes to the rescue here, and we have the much shorter moving comic book scenes, done by Ashley Wood(as in Portable Ops).
The game has a lot of content. You can follow the normal mission, and you can take side missions. You also build up an army, which is way cool.
I couldn't get into Portable Ops, because all I did was capture a guy, and run back to my truck so I could turn him into one of my crew. It just sorta went on and on. In this one, it plays like a normal MG game, but when you knock a guy out, you can just attach a balloon to him, and up he goes into your chopper, and into your ranks. Very addictive.
Anyway, i'm just about 5 hours into it, but I think it's really worth a look for those on here who like the game part of MGS, but are kind of overwhelmed by the cutscenes.

I'm playing it now..... i enjoy it way more than PO also. I never minded the cut-scenes and enjoyed that part.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
Re: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP
I'm waiting the Pal release next week, unfortunately i don't have PSP anymore.
Don't know if there is any pack(console+game) like in US/Japan.

Well, people can debate on the cutscenes, but damn i'm glad they took care of the codec overload from part 2.Strider77 wrote:I'm playing it now..... i enjoy it way more than PO also. I never minded the cut-scenes and enjoyed that part.

I'm hoping for a PSN release. I hate playing portables.

How many hours of nonsense blabbering in this one?

It wouldn't be a bad thing at all. It's a little hard to control, due to the PSP's limitations.junkeR wrote:I'm hoping for a PSN release. I hate playing portables.

Yeah, like ash said, a lot less. It's really good. Chrysalis bossfight was great - that's how you use vocaloidsUnscathedFlyingObject wrote:How many hours of nonsense blabbering in this one?

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP
I'm getting ready to take on Chapter 4. I'm around the fourteen hour mark. Lots of gameplay, and much less cinema. Very cool.
There has been criticism about the bosses, and I have mixed feelings about them. The mechs certainly lack the personality of the bosses of the other games, but they kind of knock you back with their sheer size. And some of them sing, which is always good.
If you don't have the right weapons though, it can be near impossible. So, that's kind of...well, not so into it.
Anyway, i'm having a blast though.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP
I do like how they seperated the optional codec speeches from the "mission-supporting codec calls"; gives you minimal codec-interruptions while doing a mission and you can always go and listen to the fun stuff on your own if you're bored or need a break from the gameplay. Or completely ignore it if you disliked codec-calls in past iterations. I sure wished this game was made on the PS3 instead of the movie they did with 4. The only real nuisance in this game for me are the controls, or rather, how they decided to map them for the PSP. 3 different layouts to choose from and one is shittier than the other.
Seriously, they had more or less decent semi-fixed cameras in the older games(mgs1-3), why on earth not use it now that you're putting it on a handheld with "limited" control?
Whatever, game's enjoyable and it shows that playing metal gear can be fun if you're not constantly interrupted by nonsense, like in the good ole MSX iterations.

I beat the game, and then I beat the "true" boss later.
Man, those last two were painful.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP
How are you guys finding the controls/camera? They're entirely the reason why i didn't play PO.
Look at our friendly members:

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP
It sure feels a bit better than PO, but it's still crap IMO. The controls wouldn't be bad if it weren't for the fact that thenjiska wrote:How are you guys finding the controls/camera? They're entirely the reason why i didn't play PO.
camera is only controlled by the player - this, imo, is something reserved for systems/controllers with dual-analog.
And the worst of all is that, like I already mentioned in my previous post, there's 3 different control schemes to choose
from but you can't remap buttons on your own... which pretty much eliminates the possibilty to at least map the camera's
X movement to the shoulder buttons.
Other than that, the control scheme on it's own is nothing you can't learn to effectively use after a good 30 minutes of playtime.
It's just the camera that is at fault.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP
I used the shooter type and the only complaints are due to the PSP having one thumb stick... but what are you gonna due? I got use to it and really enjoyed the game... probably the most out of all of my PSP titles. For the record I hated PO.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP
So where do you guys rank it in the MGS series? I put it third, right behind MGS and MGS 3. I prefer it to 4, and I WAY prefer it to MGS 2(the most flawed of them all).

Between 3 and 4 are a tough call for me though.... I enjoyed both and was glued to the screen till I was finished. But that goes for any of the MG games though, yes even 2.
The cutscenes and codec conversations never bothered me, I've always really enjoyed those parts. Kojima's games were wordy or long winded going back to snatcher and policenauts (nothing but glorified cutscenes). And if I ever tired of them I could hit that magical start button.
I'm going through MGS4 again right now...

It's coming to the PS3. Awesome! I hope they balance the boss difficulty this time, for single player.

first two acts were excellent - then the game just sh1t the bed. :/I thought so too. 4 just had too much story, and not enough game.
Whereas PW kept on giving. Loved the comic book style cutscenes too.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP and PS3
MG2 is a great game so I can understand putting that in the top of the list, but rating MG1 above any of the MGS games seems a bit odd to me...
And yeah, I played the MSX version, not the craptacular NES game.
