Xevious 3D/G for the PS1--Any impressions or opinions?
Xevious 3D/G for the PS1--Any impressions or opinions?
Just curious if anyone has played this game and would be willing to share their thoughts and feelings on it. I have a chance to purchase this title for around $10, but I have read that slowdown is an issue. Does it really hurt the gameplay?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I had soooo much fun with this. It's been ages, but I was addicted to it for ages. One of the first 32 bit shmups I ever had. I remember reaching the final boss on the hardest difficulty... I had the run of my life, but hey, he killed me :P Haven't played it since... the music is great too. Just a really nice feel to it, I recommend it (also it has the xevious bombing still as well, but it's not too obtrusive, and makes a nice change from "regular" shmups).

It's an awesome game-and considering that you get 3 other games, and can find this new on Ebay for less then $15, it's well worth it. It's no easy shmup, though-it starts out that way but will quickly hand you your arse-I've NEVER 1cc'd this puppy!
Still, like I said, GET THIS for your PS1-the graphics are great and the different weapons are really cool!

Wow, thanks again one and all!

This is probably the most supportive, positive message board experience I've ever had. With the exception of a few abrasive interlopers, this board is populated by people who genuinely love shmups and want to share that interest with civility. It's refreshing!

I'm actually surprised how good the 3D game is considering that I figured it to be pants. Has a bit of a home-made feel to it, but that isn't really a bad thing. The super-primitive 3D is kinda nice, and the raiden-esque weapon selection is a nice change from original xevious. Also, I like how the bombs truly lock on, and you can just hold it down instead of methodically trying to bomb all those targets.
Haven't gotten too far into it, but overall thought it was a nice (but not incredible) vertizontal shmup--alone worth the $15.

Xevious 3D/G is very fun to play even though the graphics seem primative next to RayStorm / Layer Section II which is the game Xevious 3D/G is most often compared with.
try playing the System11 arcade version in MAME if you want to quickly decide if you want to make the effort and spend money getting the Playstation port. I would say it's worth it though. you get a couple extra Xevious games on the PS1 disc anyway. go for it
