The "new" XBox 360
I figured this deserved it's own thread. You can debate that though.
Well, this is what Project Natal came to.
Anyway, this looks good, since it's going to be more quiet, and also have a new chipset to solve that heating problem more.
Although, I HATE that it's all "shiny". Makes these things impossible to keep good looking. I was so glad when the PS3 Slim got rid of that. Well, hopefully, they'll release one without the sensor that will be more of a bargain type version, and it'll have a more normal shell.
AND, it is not compatible with your old hard drives or flash memory cards. What the hell?

Re: The "new" XBox 360
I guess it won't be compatible with your awesome Cave faceplates either.
I don't recall the twin 60mm fans in the old Xbox360 being that loud. But I also ran mine open case with a couple of extra fans on the heatsinks. The DVD drive is what made the most noise for me.
I hadn't thrown a lot of money into my old X360 yet, and of course new is undeniably desirable, but this doesn't really look slimmed down all that much for me to want one badly - at least not miniaturised to the degree of PSOne and PSTwo which made them irresistible to me.

Re: The "new" XBox 360
I´d grab one if I didn´t have a 360 already but
they should have released that thing like 5 years ago really.
But that´s a different story...

Re: The "new" XBox 360
Decent-looking box, but not enough that I'd consider upgrading since I don't have that kind of money to throw away just for something shinier. Also Kinect is virtually guaranteed to be a joke. Most of the launch lineup already borders on self-parody.
Re: The "new" XBox 360
I find this thing to be damn ugly.
Not like the original Xbox360 was a beauty, but still.
Excuse me for a moment now, i have to marvel at the design of my Wii. ;D

Agreed, it's really ugly. I'll stick to my original thanks.

Looks like a tripped out PC case... but it looks like something Thermaltake would make. I happen to have a Thermaltake case though... so I don't mind this too much. It'll be an insta-buy for me if it eliminates the RROD and hits Japanese stores.

I'm finally going to pick up a cheap Arcade unit.
Re: The "new" XBox 360
The 360's heating problem has already been solved with Jasper; it's just that most folks aren't in the loop yet. In fact, switching to a single fan in the new model will help reduce noise but it'll also increase heat. That change, along with the additional chip size reduction and integration, is solely to reduce costs at this point.
And what sensor are you referring to? From all that's been stated, the system only includes a port to link up to Kinect if that's what you're wondering (not Kinect sensoring functionality itself). There's little to save there.
MS will probably making a decent profit off the new 360 design and it'll be interesting to see how they position themselves. Right now, with this premium model, they seem to be justifying maintaining the price by adding new features.

I kinda wish this had been available 3 years ago. Also, GLOSS
I might pick one up down the line, but I'm much more interested in investing in a new computer first.

Re: The "new" XBox 360
You'd have to be pretty dumb to move your console like that while it's reading a disk.

They're wrong though... there's still a power brick, albeit one that's much smaller than what's on the market now.undamned wrote:$old.engadget wrote:... 45nm chipset... power supply has moved inside the case...

Re: The "new" XBox 360
I might get one eventually, if for no other reason than the fact that my launch day 360 has somehow dodged the RROD up until now, and I get the sneaking suspicion it's going to go at some point. The full 20GB drive probably isn't helping much either.
Re: The "new" XBox 360
what a pointless revision, a jasper arcade would be alot cheaper than buying one of these.

Re: The "new" XBox 360
It will be the ultimate lulz if those new consoles overheat and RROD anyway.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
Re: The "new" XBox 360
Some of them probably will. Rumor has it that the issues with 360 failures don't reflect a single specific flaw but rather a mix of flaws related to Microsoft trying to outsource as little of the design as possible and thus having growing pains with regard to the necessary experience and infrastructure needed to pull off a system of this complexity (as opposed to the original Xbox where more of the gory details were supposedly handled by Nvidia et. al.). I don't remember where I saw this, but I once read an article saying that they had even tried to do the layout of the GPU (meaning the layout of the chip itself, not just the layout of its board footprint/bus/etc.) before outsourcing it to an ASIC vendor (rumored to be ATI themselves).Specineff wrote:It will be the ultimate lulz if those new consoles overheat and RROD anyway.
Re: The "new" XBox 360
Sorry to go off-topic, but is there anything interesting a JTAG X360 can do that my PC cannot? And will a JTAG unit be banned from Live? Just wondering since I opened up my Falcon unit sort of just for fun (primarily for cooling), and I might as well go all the way with it if it isn't that harmful. Everything else is legit though, and I have bought a game from XBLA with this unit.
But agreed on the ultimate lulz. I can't really see CPU & GPU of this level having their power requirements reduced so much that the system and its cooling setup can be miniaturised much more. Then again I'm almost a cooling freak with my mATX PC, not much I can do in the tight space and I've had mITX boxes that got very hot.

Play Xbox 360 games (DVD optional, apparently patches/mods are also possible).gct wrote:Sorry to go off-topic, but is there anything interesting a JTAG X360 can do that my PC cannot?

I thought it was a bit simpler, but that is very close to my line of thinking. It's almost stylish, but I almost expect the name ENCOM on there somewhere.Elixir wrote:Looks like a tripped out PC case... but it looks like something Thermaltake would make. Overall, it's a newer, cleaner-burning 360. What's not to love? (The fact that this shit still scratches discs, or that people are moving their 360s while they're on? To be fair, my old Xbox 1 with the Thompson drive seems to have put some little marks on discs - nothing to kill them though).

I dunno, I dig the shiny black look, although, owning a shiny black laptop, I know it's going to get covered in fingerprints so fucking easily [but it's still pretty shiny covered in all that grease still

Only reason why is becuase your a messy fucker and your making room. In which case you deserve to get your discs scratched. But hey we need something to bitch about right?Acid King wrote:Why the fuck would anyone move the system while it's on?Lordstar wrote:there is a video which made me laugh.

genral public dont need to beta test a console/game . Thats a pretty retarded answer.Elixir wrote:Beta testing.Acid King wrote:Why the fuck would anyone move the system while it's on?
Ive beta tested games before and ive never needed to even touch a console (other than to make it connect to my pad)
Like someone said in a previous post if you live in cali and you have an earthquake the game inside your xbox is going to be the least of your worries. Besides if you want to put some effort in scratches are not really a big issue.Ex-Cyber wrote:They live in California?Acid King wrote:Why the fuck would anyone move the system while it's on?
