What do you think of Dragon Blaze?

I just picked up this PCB from a buddy of mine - may have jumped the gun, but I had some stuff he wanted, and I thought the game looked cool, so I picked it up. It'll be my first game that requires a tated monitor (nice preparation for whenever I manage to find Galuda) so I'm looking forward to that.

From a glance, it looks very much like a reskinned Strikers. Any truth to that, or am I delusional?

What're your overall thoughts on the game? Is it a good intro to vert monitor shmups?

All Psikyo verts are like Strikers.

Dragon Braze, particularly, is like hell difficult. On par with Strikers 1999. It scared me.

So relatively straightforward scoring, but difficult to survive then, eh?

Strikers 99 wasn't easy, but I thought it was fun from the few credits I played. I dont' play shmups enough to have very refined taste, though, and there are people here that can attest to that.

It doesn't play like Strikers at all. You can make that claim about Gunbird 2. DB, no. The dragon mechanics / gold coins change things significantly.

It's more like Psikyo's Dangun Feveron, with the emphasis on smashing enemies the instant they appear and grabbing the resulting point items.

Great game, but be aware it's brutal. Bullet speed goes through the roof by stage 3.

There aren't "safe" tactics in this game are they? The dragon thing is fantastic. If there are shmups sporting somewhat underpowered weaponry out there, Dragon Blaze certainly is NOT one of them.

Dragon Blaze is amazing but it's brutally difficult. I can get as far as stage 5 and then it kicks me in the dick. Definitely my favorite of Psikyo's games.

Same. The dragon shot mechanic is a lot of fun and I like that it rewards aggressive play.
