Is Ketsui Death Label for DS worth the cost?
I just got a DSi XL and noticed Ketsui Death Label when looking for shmups, is it worth the inflated ebay price?
The closest thing I have to a shmup for the system is the Konami arcade hits collection with gradius and twin bee. And also Bangai-O Spirits which looks great on the big screen.
I own around 30 DS games already I didn't intend to play shmups on it but it would be nice.

It comes down to personal taste after all. I hear people saying how awesome Ketsui DS is and how they enjoy it. I for myself never had any real fun with it. I've only bought it for the superplay DVD (which is fantastic btw!).
If you find it cheap somewhere, you might want to snag it and maybe sell it later on in case you didn't like it. I wouldn't pay anything over $60-$70 though. No idea what the current going rate is...

Ketsui DS is awesome for what it is: ketsui on the go. I am not sure if it is worth the 70 bucks that it goes for, since I didnt pay for mine, but it is defintely a good game. If I saw it for regular DS retail price (30) Id pick it up without a second thought.

Fuck no. Granted my only experience with Death Label is as a method to stay awake while waiting to see if a friend has a concussion, but still, it's just a boss rush. Not exactly the most fulfilling experience for the price of entry. Superplay is pretty mint, but if i remember correctly it actually has region coding.

Yes, it's fun. It's not "Ketsui on the go" which is exactly why you should get it. Before the port, it was still a lot cheaper than buying the PCB.

You can also grab Metal Torrent off the store. It's a bit short and the easy ship is very easy, but it's worth the $5.Neith wrote:The closest thing I have to a shmup for the system is the Konami arcade hits collection with gradius and twin bee. I bought it at the initial price (+ shipping through play-asia) and I've easily gotten my money's worth. It's constantly in my DS and I play the heck out of it. Think of it as a collection of the best shmup bosses ever made, and a very challenging scoring system on top of that. It's a little milkable but it's still fun enough.
I hear it goes for a lot of money now, though. I don't know if it's worth more than $60-70.

I purchased it on release and still play it to this day. Even though it is (mostly) a biss rush, it offers significant challenge and once you beat Death Label, Extra mode (full stage) will kick your ass for weeks to come. I've easily gotten my money's worth and then some. I would recommend watching eBay. All of the BIN prices are ridiculous but I've seen many complete games with the DVD go for $60-$80, you just have to be patient.
Speaking of such, I think I'll go play Extra mode now

I haven't played it but considering that ESPGaluda2 for iPhone/Pad is only $10, I'd honestly just wait for more of Cave's games to hit the iTunes store.
Out of curiosity, why didn't you wait for the 3DS?

Re: Is Ketsui Death Label for DS worth the cost?
Just recently tried out NDS Ketsui Death Label on the huge DSi XL variant and it is easier to see the bullet patterns to dodge them. Even playing Metroid Pinball is a whole stellar pinball experience on the DSi XL compared to playing it on a smaller DS Lite handheld minus using the rumble pak accessory.
The FMV anime clips of NDS Infinite Space look awesome running on the DSi XL.
IMO, it's not worth paying the inflated eBay prices for NDS Ketsui DL but if you can snag it for around $60-$70+, then by all means get it. The cool Superplay DVD that accompanies the bundled Ketsui DL game set features the current WR run of Ketsui PCB.

A significant distinction. I dig it. I would not recommend not getting a not memory card to not play it not first, though.HeWhoGoverns wrote:Ketsui DS is awesome for what it is: ketsui boss rush on the go.

Re: Is Ketsui Death Label for DS worth the cost?
There's not much to add that hasn't been said. It's fun as a boss rush and (if you don't have a DSi for Metal Torrent/Mujou Setsuna) the best bullet-hell game you'll get on a DS. I bought mine on release from Play-Asia and feel like the purchase was totally worthwhile; I wouldn't feel the same if the price was anything above $60. Note that you might get a bit more value from the complete set with the DVD if you're a real Ketsui player or superplay collector, seeing as the Insanity DVD is a bit tough to find. I'd have a hard time playing the typical ~$80+ market rate for it now, though.
Re: Is Ketsui Death Label for DS worth the cost?
I love it. It has a cool scoring system that is quite different from Ketsui's. The patterns are a lot slower and easy to navigate, but there are some pretty hard modes included. I really like handheld games though.
Re: Is Ketsui Death Label for DS worth the cost?
It does play a lot better on the larger DSi XL.

Re: Is Ketsui Death Label for DS worth the cost?
I was amazed that it is, indeed, easier to play Ketsui DL on a DSi XL compared to the tiny DS Lite with it's two miniscule LCD screens making it a very dicey proposition to try to cross the insane thick bullet streams & hope to make it out unscathed/alive. If Nintendo could make an optional NDS accessory for the Wii so that it'd possible to play NDS games on a bigger TV monitor setup, that'd be gravy along with a proper Wii or Gamecube arcade stick.

That's very cool to hear about the XL, PCEFX! I just got mine and I've only played Fire Emblem SD so far. It's terrific for viewing stats. Great to hear that it's good for seeing bullets and balls.
