Well, technically she is... she'd be considered a "craft" (witch craft? no pun intended, ironically enough) and thus, a ship.
I'm surprised no one's mentioned the Endy 3 from Einhander. Useless piece of shit, IMO. Hell, the cop car was a better instrument of destruction, as long as you never got hit (aka get screwed Gradius-style, dropped off at a checkpoint with a pea-shooter)

Mind if I borrow a piece of that for my next sig?
But yeah, according to the Glossary I've been compiling, at least, "craft" is pretty much the all-encompassing term for ships, planes, characters, etc...I don't think you could get away with calling Fumiko a "ship" though. All ships are craft, but all craft are not ships.
OT, and not to pick nits, but I don't see how a human character is any more a 'craft' than a 'ship'. Both imply a piloted vehicle. Perhaps a better term can be found.
Well, "piloted" by the player, if you want to take the nitpicking even further.
But in any case I see what you mean: if anyone can think of a better all-encompassing term, I'll add it to the glossary.
I guess it'd more or less cover the bases, but I find it a bit cumbersome...not like it matters anyways, as most shmuppers just call 'em all "ships" and are done with it anyways. But maybe I'll add an addendum to the "craft" definition or something, when I get the chance.
Basic take I always heard on DDP was that type C-S was easiest for clearing the game, Type A-L was best if you want to do well and type B was just a big question mark. I DO like type B...but what the hell, I like all the ships (except for type C-L).
I didn't realize the type C ship actually had a larger hit box.

Eugenics: you know it's right!
Raijin (Giga Wing) - It has excellent shot range but that means much poorer shot concentration, and it's very slow. I rarely ever touch this ship.
Type C (Batsugun) - You have both wide shot and concentrated shot at your disposal, but I don't like the weak power of it.
R-Gray 1 (RayForce) - It's good as a beginner's ship and nothing more. A maximum of 8 lock-ons means that I can't score as much with the R-Gray 2's 16 lock-ons and more dynamic laser weapon.
Type B (DoDonPachi) - It's very slow and I don't like the way the options rotate when you move horizontally.

Just because you don't know how to use a ship doesn't mean it's useless.
That applies to most of the comments in this thread, BTW.
He didn't seem so terrible, though I've only made it as far as 1-5, so he may fall apart in the later levels or after the loop. You do have to love his bomb, though.
That plane is slower than shit. The special shot does huge damage but it can takes a whole level or more to charge up the meter. Plus, it's slower than shit.
Cthulhu wrote:Most people tend to agree that the green ship (the second one) in Dodonpachi is weaker than the other two. It's not so bad as to be useless, but it is easier to clear the game with the other two.
Interesting...I find the green helicopter to be the best ship for me when I play. I think it's because I like the homing shots the little helper ships send out - that tends to help in a crunch.

And his charge shot is cute too. "Arabian magic!"
To use him effectively one really needs to know where and when to drop his vicinity attack. If only he was a tad quicker, he'd be better.
@APascual63827 - The Zero is perfect for a two player game, especially with P1 using the Pancake, and P2 the Zero. There's nothing more satisfying then to have the Pancake draw the fire, while you let your supershot go.
