360 Shmups NON-CAVE

Post by DaneSaga »

After playing nothing but CAVE for the past couple of years on my J360, I have decided to branch out a bit and see what else the console has to offer in the way of shmups.

Could I get some recommendations for non-CAVE games.
I am aware of the Raiden compilation any good?
Also I am interested in Senko no Ronde, but how much of a shmup actually is it?

thanks

First, the compilation is Raiden Fighters, not Raiden. The compilation is the first time the games were ported. Second, Raiden IV.

Definitely snag Raiden Fighters Aces - those games play rather differently from the first two and a half Raidens, and either way it's definitely worth the measly twenty bucks. Raiden IV isn't bad either, especially now that it goes for 20 as well. I think Mamoru-kun is Cursed! is kinda cool, but it definitely won't appeal to everyone.

I haven't played Otomedius or Shooting Love 200X, so i can't comment on those.

If you can get games from XBLA, there's Ikaruga (if you haven't already played it elsewhere), Triggerheart Exelica, and Raystorm HD on there.

Ah.. so Raiden on the 360 isn't a compilation of the Raidens that I have played. I just asumed it was a compliation of the old Raidens by Seibu.
I didn't even know about the Raiden Fighters series, thanks for the info.

I should probably edit my original post before anyone else see my stupidity.

Raiden IV is cool if you like the older Raidens. It keeps kicking me in the nuts though. The Raiden Fighters compilation is awesome, especially Jet. One of the best games ever and better than any CAVE-game if you ask me.

Senko no Ronde is pretty shmup, the actual perspective is basically "versus <arena shooter>".

Shikigami no Shiro III. Also on the Wii (and significantly cheaper), but the 360 version has HD graphics I believe.

Shooting Love200X is pretty good for the vert department, its not really my cup of tea but it has tons of variety with all the silly mini games in the shmup skills test.
