Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Found Baldur's Gate 2 and Throne of Bhall for £2.99 in a charity shop today to finally replace my old lost copy.
It's been many years since I played this beauty and I've just had a wonderful time clearing the first chapter.
If I was only allowed 2 CRPGs to last me until the end of time I would surely pick this and Morrowind.

Blur. Damn addictive game.

been playing A LOT of Contra on MAME lately and just started on Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Red Dead Redemption. I think starting on 2 big titles the same time, with the next to nothing game time I have these days, was a bad choice...

Playing Anniversary made me want to check out Core's games, and I've been alternating between Tomb Raider II and The Last Revelation.

Joe Danger! It's all kinds of awesome (ExciteBike meets Trials HD meets some amazing platformer-racer crossover that Car-vup never was!).
You should all get it!

SNES:
*Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures (SNES) - The best Indiana Jones game IMO.
PC-Engine CD stuff:
*Dracula X: Rondo of Blood
*Double Dragon 2 - Better than the arcade version, with a faster game speed.

I'm enjoying it quite a lot, actually. Been posting run downs of each chapter as I complete them over in this thread.professor ganson wrote:What do you think of it so far?Kiken wrote:Sakura Wars (aka Sakura Taisen V): I just finished up chapter 6. Now onto the stupid long chapters; 7 and 8.

been enjoying the greatness of Model 2 emulation. Playing a lot of Sega Rally Championship and Moto Raid. Daytona on the other hand just doesn't feel right unless it's at the arcade.

after finally getting Mighty Pang to work in Mame with highscore-saving I'm hooked O_o
imho this is what arcade-games are meant to be: beautiful/colorful graphics, easy gameplay & the just-one-more-go urge (which keeps me from getting enough sleep lately...)

Almost done with the Lunar remake, Harmony of the Silver Star on the PSP. Probably the easiest RPG I've played but aside from the difficulty the remake is well done and I've enjoyed it.

I finally beat Streets of Rage 2 today! I've been waiting for this day since I was a kid.
I had lives set to 5, and I had to use all my continues, but still....next up, trying to tackle Hard difficulty!

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
I finished Dracula X: Rondo of Blood just now (PCE version). Maria and Annette were saved, but not Terra & Iris- maybe next time. This isn't as hard as the NES, X68000, or Genesis Castlevania titles, but it's still worthy. The only downer would be that there are a few places you can leech points with no time limit, making playing for score mostly pointless except for the extra lives you get at every 20000.
I've also tried the SNES Dracula X- It doesn't get the respect it deserves, even if Rondo is better in some ways such as having alternate paths. Harumi Ueko (AKA Jimmy Weckl) and a few other composers worked on bringing Michiru Yamane's BGM and some new tracks over to the SNES. The cartridge tunes don't sound bad at all.
This is really Akumajo Dracula XX, meant to be seen as a sequel. Apparently NEC strongly disfavored the idea of Konami porting Rondo to the SNES, so that's why ADXX is a different game. If the 32-bit SNES CD had showed up, this could've came out on top.

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Playing Thexder II. I really like this game a lot. Too much dicking around with subweapons slows the pace down, too many enemies are just laser sponges, and an unfortunate decision to drop score, but it really is a minor classic that should be remembered more than it is

Re: What [not shmup] game are you playing now?
Just finished off the DS remake of Dragon Quest IV. Great stuff, but I still think V is the best in the series.
I can see why so many people whinge about the way the newer games are translated and localised. There are so many accents and dialects for them to get to grips with. I noticed Irish ones, Scottish ones, French ones, Russian (?) ones and Cockney. Probably more. The people who don't like it are probably just having trouble reading it! "Craic" came up more than once, which made me chuckle.
