I too would welcome a thread that had links to all the best browser shmups. Can we atleast make a rule of thumb? No mouse controlled shmups it has to be keyboard or a hybrid that uses both like Noitu Love 2 (I fucking hate mouse controlled shmups its what initially put me off flash when all I could find were those poor excuses for a shoot em up)

Not worth it really considering that i posted a topic here ages ago (probably a few months back now) enquiring about flash games and didn't get any useful help, and then just by blind luck when i was trolling on google, i came cross Strikers1945 on Y8.com.
Forum member Aguraki is right in saying that there are not enough elite gamers here that can contribute useful info from time to time. Think i should make it my mission to find a better shumps forum to sign up so that i can say good riddance to this forum.

I can tell you why people didn't post much about Flash shmups - most people don't care, because they're not as good as MAME which 90% of platforms fast enough to run a Flash game quickly could run instead.

I'm surprised we don't see more Blitz based games to be honest - it's got a very low barrier to entry.

Its pretty obvious to most here, that flash shumps are no where near as good MAME, the same can be said about MAME vs Jamma pcbs (no contest) but that is besides the point. The point being is accessibility to the best games titles (in this case arcade shumps titles) that flash has to offer.

I know what you mean about Flash being and underwhelming alternative to MAME, but for a sneaky work credit, I think Flash ports have a value.

Rather than set up a thread of Flash shmups, maybe a little high score board might be of use?

I tried TF3/4 and elemental master.
Do you have some lag and some freeze screen in these(in el.master esp) or is that just me?
how do games differ from differents hosts?
Does it matter?

and to speak a bit more about the thread points:
Of cource a flash games ports won't be as good as a MAME game but people are playing on plenty of different supports(port of the same arcade game on nes/genesis/snes,etc) and even have their score in the hi score forum.

Also speaking about the ports is nice but I was thinking to original flash shmups(like the "red planes" I posted,which steals from different games) that are worth playing.
People will always argue about a port anyway so with original games critique will be on a different level.

I didn't look at them till now but after a bit of research it looks like a fun and new area to explore,and its pretty cool to do something that hasn't been rehashed bazillon times already

I don't think the upgrades or healthbars will win any fans but the bosses are quite fun and there's a reasonable amount of thought put into scoring mechanics.

little gem here.
finished the part 1 till the end(5 stage) in easy mode and it was already really cool.
Tried it in the max diffuculty and it became really challenging.
You can submit your scores,change a ton of settings(background,arcade mode,difficulty,etc...) and many ways to score.
Some nice patterns and kinda milkable bosses.

Yeah loved that game. Played it in frantic difficulty 1st game and reached stage 3 boss though i had to quit because the mouse pad controller was becoming unresponsive when the red bullets were getting quite intense which a shame really because i was really getting into dodging all that shit until my ship started going heywire during the slowdown. Nice find, thanks for that.
Stage music tracks were really thumping out, loved that.

Also, you're right, MAME is better than PCB in many regards. Non-jamma pcbs are definitely better than MAME, though.

Ugh, Red Plane 2 was awful. I can see they've tried harder than most to give an arcade feel but they made the mistake of giving even the most basic enemies millions of hit points which made the game feel like a chore.

Ugh, Red Plane 2 was awful. I can see they've tried harder than most to give an arcade feel but they made the mistake of giving even the most basic enemies millions of hit points which made the game feel like a chore.

The destruction damage on some of the enemies is kinda high, so you got be pretty aggressive in taking them out quickly otherwise you have to fly around them. Also in Red Plane is power down where if you collide with an enemy fighter, your firepower goes down just like the arcade version. You really need to rack up those medals to buy up better firepower for stage-2 onwards. Still doable with your standard firepower.

As for the two flash provided by forum member Linko9, the 1st kept crashing on me, and the 2nd was hard but kinda fun......well kinda

Reached stage-2 boss after a couple of tries on Drakojan skies, mainly because its so awkward on my Dell mini 9in netbook. Shame there is only 1-life bar to get through the whole game, and i don't like the fact that you have to remember where to pick up those power up from the ships that appear from the back of the screen. Apart from that the visuals are pretty stunning though slightly confusing at times because your ship is sometimes camouflaged with the surrounding backdrops.

edit:you can zoom and have kinda fullscreen in light wings(ctrl+)

also found that you can change your screen resolution if the window is too small(change to 800*600 or lower if possible) and you get a fullscreen mode in a lot of these games.

Personally I stay right away from this site. I get the impression that all that's really being put into it is a ROM-loading system similar to vNES and has lag issues (not the kind of lag that you get from playing a flash game on fullscreen and it lags inputwise).

I dont think this one's been posted, so I'll give a mention to Redshift by Diseased Productions. Anyone that seriously plays Flash Games at all should know these guys for the Thing-Thing series. I can't honestly say the gameplay in Redshift is as good though, gives me the Euroshmup vibe.
