What's your favorite in the Strikers 1945 series?

Post by NOAH »

I searched to see if this topic was already posted and didn't find it so I hope I'm not repeating here. I really enjoyed the first game as a kid, but it's honestly the only one I've had the chance to play. I'm looking to buy a Strikers game and am interested in your opinions.

Thanks, folks.

Both Strikers 1945 2 and it's sequel, Strikers 1999 (aka Strikers 1945 III in the USA) are worth your time. Check them both out on Mame/Mame32 to see if they're your "cup of tea". And there's the Psikyo released MVS cartridge of Strikers 1945 Plus which is a slight revision of the classic Strikers 1945 2 PCB.

Psikyo even went as far to print a full sized Strikers 1945 III promotional poster for arcades to hang up to get the word out that it was being released Stateside.

The second one is my favorite. Asking which is the best is kind of like asking someone what their favorite AC/DC album is. They're similar enough to where it's going to come down to preference. For me, it's Flying Pancake ftw.

after playing 2 and plus side by side, I'm going with 2. Its technically faster, sharper with greater animations. Bosses are more varied and the rank system is more akin to acceptable. On 1945 plus, even if you use the easiest settings, once you get to stage 6 without dying there is so much crap on the screen you can't see for anything.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

I'm not sure if I like II or Plus better. They're both great.

I'm not a fan of III though.

Thanks for all of your contributions, guys. I'm leaning toward II myself. Animations and boss battles are pretty good in my opinion. I appreciate your comments, folks.

Haha, I agree...but for real I'd say II. The sprite work and animations just seem more up to par for me although I'm not a huge Strikers fan honestly.

Strikers II is a masterpiece and probably the most balanced in the series. Shame that it looks so ugly compared with the other two.

Strikers 1945 III which, by the way, has a very lonely scoreboard that wants you!

I really enjoyed II in last year's SGT. I tried Plus after that and didn't like it near as much.

Just won a clean II PCB on ebay for $71 shipped, woot!

hmm, I really like Strikers 1945 Plus quite a lot, and have been playing the PSP version a lot lately, but I'd have to say I like Strikers 1945 III the best. so for me its Strikers 1945 III, then Strikers 1945 plus and Strikers 1945 II tied.

Im only voting for ST1945-2 because it retains its raw (like ST1945) and slightly method gameplay feel, where as ST1999 and ST1945 Plus seems more method gameplay. i won't vote for original ST1945, because its full of stupid unorthodox cpu surprises ie; your fighter moves slightly slower when you have max bomb, disables your manoeuvring speed and/or firepower (mainly your charge shot wont work when you need it) when your ultra aggressive in taking out all enemies, cpu difficulty ranks up stupidly with Shinden fighter.

I'll say Strikers II because Mills says so, although I like how I can actually get on the HS board in Strikers I here.

I like I and II about evenly. I don't really care for the Technical Bonuses in III. Plus seems extraneous, imo.

I really want to like this series. I've played hundreds of credit on 1 and just can't handle overbearing rank system and uneven difficulty (level 6 is approx. 500 times harder than level 5).

Maybe I should give 2 a whirl? Or am I just a Strikers hater for life?

You should definitely try the others. Each installment in the series is quite different. I'm not crazy about the first Strikers game, either, and the third is one of my favorite shooting games of all time.

Strikers series is certainly not fun especially when you reach beyond stage 3 onwards when the game ranks up. Its really in your face no nonsense shump but if you play smart enough and use the bombs where needed, you can get pretty far. Strikers Plus is more fun because it doesn't rank up as much as the others if you play safety.
