Edit: Christ, a 9.7 from gamespot? Aren't they overrating this just a little for a Metroid game? Let me guess, the C stick controls your aim, and analog controls movement? R button for shooting, or something of that caliber?
You used to review for Gamespot? Or a fansite?

Anyways, at least rent Metroid Prime for a weekend. I was really skeptical and annoyed when they announced it as FPS but I was amazed at how close in quality IMHO it is to the original games, it emulates classic elements like the morph ball seamlessly and even has great little platform bits here and there. It is to the original games what Mario 64 and TOoT were to their roots.

And no, C stick does not aim, you lock onto enemies with the R trigger, some people (Halo fans) hate this but that is basically how it was in Super Metroid ya know? So no, it is not like Halo. Much more atmospheric but still incredibly epic. Beautiful music too by the same composers as Super Metroid, wait till you hear the slow snowflake theme from Phendrana drifts and the underwater music.

Be attitude for gains:

3) Be praying...

And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.
