RQ: How Do You Manage Your Jamma PCB Collections?

Post by The Expanding Man »

My collection of Jamma boards is about to reach the dizzying heights of 4.

I have one cab - a Blast City.

For safety, I want to screw the PCBs to a wood board to slide into the slot inside the cabinet. If there is a better way, I'd like to hear about it.

It seems I have 2 options.

Cut a board for every PCB and have them permanently attached to the board. Means I can easily swap boards in seconds, but may mean that I have storage problems (can't protect the babies in anti-static plastic).

Use the same board and have to screw a PCB to it everytime I want to swap games.

I have done a few searches on this, but couldn't find very much help.

Thanks.

I install PCB holders on the board inside the cab.

Pretty cool. From the picture though you can't tell exactly how it mounts. Surely that diagonal bit makes it awkward.

The diagonal bit has two vertical ridges on, its perfect for pcb's. Being a pcb holder I guess.

Can't be bothered screwing every game to the wooden board before playing.

Always good to go to a woodshop or whatever and get the guy to cut you up a load of MDF the right size also, works out about a quid a piece too.

I have a single CPS2 mobo with feet and clips, mounted to a wood board and just change the B board, a 4 slot mounted to another board, and a pcb holder on another board :)

Doesn't work for MVS 1-slots though. But most PCBs will fit... LIKE A GLOVE.

saw some place selling what i can only describe as massive Neo Geo style shock boxes. I'm thinking of buying some and then a roll of the anti static pcb shipping foam. Print of a few huge oversized custom inlays and it's on!

In other words, play them arcade PCBs via emulation, right? Definitely saves space and serious $$$ by going that particular route indeed.

The hard-core arcade gamer veterans, however, will have a stash of his or her favorite PCBs on hand to play whenever the desire comes on strong to sate it whether it be the shmups genre or another genre. So be it. The privilege of owning/maintaining your own private & personal arcade is cool since you are the owner, manager and customer all rolled into one. Ain't nothing like playing with real software on real hardware (with dropping in yen/quarter/pence coins into the coin chute) for the best authentic arcade experience (aside of attending a local Japanese game center).

That, and I have no space for arcade cabinets. If I had the space and cash, there are a few arcade games I'd own. But I don't, so I play them via MAME or in an arcade collection like Metal Slug Anthology or Taito Legends 2.

nothing fancy here, I just keep them individually wrapped in bubble wrap, on their side in a row on a shelf. The main thing I avoid is similar to books without bookends, when the PCB's slouch over to one side, it probably isn't good for the components on them.

Mine stay in the boxes they were delivered in, or perhaps in the case of having the kit, inside the kit box.

Having a bunch of naked PCB's lying around isn't exactly attractive.

If they're boxed (like, say, a Cave kit), they stay in the box unless I have them in my cab. A bare PCB I'll put in bubble wrap or an antistatic bag if I have one large enough.

Me too! I read somewhere that shag carpet works the best, though.

Same way I manage my floppy disks: I take a huge magnet and attach them to my refrigerator.
