Game identification: 2D fighter

Post by sjewkestheloon »

I'm trying to figure out the name of a mid-nineties 2D fighter which felt like a bit of Mortal Kombat rip off. One distinctive feature was that each enemy that you defeated had a body part cut off and mounted on your character.

Any ideas?

Sorry to start a new thread for this.

It could also be Time Killers, the prequel to Blood Storm which uses similar controls (a 2x2 button layout like Tekken, with a Head button added in TK's case- in BS you get a "Block" button instead).

The Genesis port of TK came out really late (try 1996).

One of the BS taunt codes makes the game show the message "You don't know shit about this game...go buy EGM!".

When Daniel Pesina appeared in an ad for BS, Midway fired him.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

My curiosity piqued, I spent about fifteen minutes with the game.

ROFLMAO!!

That's a good one, that made me laugh!

How could he have been so naive to sign at Midway and simultaneously promote BS?!! :)

I guess Midway didn't appreciate that gesture too much. ;)

So were the Developer (Incredible Technologies, Chun Soft) & the Publisher (Strata) of BS, in collaboration with EGM in any way at the time and indirectly promoting EGM through their taunt codes as a result?

But the company did not fare to well…
• Sushi-X, an editor of the game magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly, was mentioned in one of the taunt codes ("Sushi-X rules this game!").
• One of the taunt codes was also an advertisement for the handbook made for BloodStorm, giving out the address of where to send it and instructions. Considering the company shortly went out of business after the release of this game, it is probably useless information by now.
