I've watched anime since my mid-teens, and i've noticed the eroticism of little girls kinda growing steadily. I see it in TONS of fan art, in video games, in anime, and of course, in shmups.

I know there's a shit-ton of loli porn manga, and i'm aware that child porn was legal up until late last millenium.

Every place has issues with the lolita thing, and some people are more into it than others. But it seems like they kind of just embrace it and roll with it. Its' EVERYWHERE. To a Westerner, when you see it full on, it's kind of like "what the fuck?". It's like walking down the street and seeing a magazine cover with a horse dick in an old man's mouth. It's like "isn't this supposed to be underground or something?".

I'm just curious as to why this is? Is it just Japan in particular, or do other nearby Asian countries have a long history of widespread acceptance of pedophilia(in media, at least)?

It's just pretty weird to me, and I wonder if anyone who lives there, or knows more about it, could shed some light. And then there's the rape fetish, but we'll just look past that for now...

What? Nowhere on this planet do people have a widespread acceptance of pedo stuff. It may be a trend in Otaku anime with moe, you know, the anime that airs in Japan at like 3 in the morning, and even that has to be somewhat worksafe. This stuff aimed towards these people, and certainly not a part of the mainstream media, Japan just has a tendency to look the other way when this stuff gets created so "it can't be helped." Even in the most nerdiest of places like the holy land Akihabara, most doujin and 18+ stores are kept, literally, underground as they try to keep those shops in basements. There's plenty of perverse stuff above ground as well so it doesn't change much there though. But pretty much everywhere else in that country is normal.

Japan is not the only country with a fetish for the lolis or at least extremely young looking ones. It seems like a common thing among East Asian countries. I think that part of it is that East Asians tend to look younger (police stop me to ask me why I'm not in school, lol), so they prefer younger looking types.

But anyways, porn is porn and it caters to what people want. In America, most porn actresses have impossibly big'uns for their body size, and to be honest, it doesn't look like it's consented sex at all.

i dunno man...i think it really just comes down to this:

they draw the distinction between reality and animated fantasy....

i really dont think its a 'big deal' there on a whole in day to day culture.....remember we arent really seeing japanese culture, just the aspects that interest us....sure, the nerdy teens and young adults(our japanese counterparts) there might find that stuff cool, but on a broader scale?

Yeah, but Jesus never said "don't fuck anyone under 16 or 18". I think the west just sorta came up with that one on it's own.
