You could beat all the easy shmups out there, but you won't get any confidence this way. Go play a hard shmup and do your best to beat it. It'll take time and perseverance but in the end you'll really feel proud of yourself when you finally beat it.

The best victories are the ones you fight hard for.

1CC'd MUSHA on Normal. I was happy about it, because this is constantly pointed out as the "easy 1CC", right after Thunderforce III. And I have NEVER even beaten it on normal, until I 1CC'd it.
Now try M.U.S.H.A. on Hard it just plays a bit faster than Normal for most of the game though the enemies don't take that many more shots to eliminate, and while the shots are sped up just a bit the shootable shots are still shootable given the fast auto-fire rate. The main challenge on Hard is that those enemies that fire the cruise missiles are that much more of a problem given the speed and seemingly greater accuracy of those missiles. (I can 1CC M.U.S.H.A. on Normal each and every time I play it on Normal, but Stage 6 boss is as far as I can get on Hard.)
I can't 1CC it on Hard or Mania on my first try on those difficulties.
That's because ThunderForce III Hard and Mania difficulties take away all weapons collected and the next ship only starts out with the Twin Shot and Back Shot vs. Normal which only takes away the current weapon in use when a ship is lost and keeps every other weapon that was collected. Losing a ship is that much more of a problem due to that difference. That reminds me a lot of what made ThunderForce II that much harder of a game even on Normal (and therefore why TF II is not much of a favorite of mine for both the overhead stages and the side scrolling stages with memorizer type traps).
Anything I should go for next? I'd like to add to my sad, but growing list.
For conventional/16-bit shumps: Has a 1CC on Gaiares been done? On Normal? On Very Hard? (I get as far as the Stage 6 boss on Normal and the stage 3 midboss just before the castle section with traps on Very Hard.)

Why you don't try Macross Scrambled Valkyrie for Super Famicom?.

It's not that hard.

What about Gate Of Thunder? I remember that being not too much trouble.

Seriously though, how in the hell are you supposed to kill that boss at the end of ESPGaluda. It seems so unfair.

Well, I managed to 1-life Gaiares on Normal.
Not trying to brag here, but the difficulty in this game is a bit overrated.

Especially since most of it comes from dodgy hit detection rather than actual difficult situations.
