Ico SoTC fans rejoice

Post by neorichieb1971 »

http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2010/05/26/ ... n-q1-2011/

I know some fans exist on here. If 1080p 60fps or even 720p at 60fps is possible that would be freakin awesome.

Can't open that link at work, but I'm guessing it means Team Ico's masterpieces are coming to PSN in HD. If that's the case I think I just filled the cup.

I'll wait till this is officially out of rumor territory to put too much stock in it.

If it's pretty cheap, and Shadow of the Colossus runs at 60 fps, I might get it. Otherwise, don't see the point since I already own it (don't care about Ico either way, don't like it much)

Great news if it's not just a rumour. I'll buy it for sure. SotC was a PS3 game on the PS2.

If this is real:

SotC genuinely made me physically ill to play, but I still liked it a lot - will double dip if this happens and they can get it up to a solid framerate (doesn't even need to be 60fps, I don't care about that). Hopefully they use the PAL version of Ico so other people can enjoy the cool extras they put in there.

I've played both games so many times I don't know if being HD will excite me without extra content. Games weren't about framerate although I do think SoTC would benefit from being a solid 30FPS at least. What I would expect is "monsters inc" type fur, a horse that looks like black beauty, much more in the way of details in the environment and possibly two more collossi. SoTC is a game that shows off its organic nature so upprezzing the game to 1080p or 720p alone will be a cop out.

Ico doesn't need much to impress. Just lots of environmental noises, birds and trees blowing in the wind. Could be a demo piece for the PS3 if they do it right.

Well, there are pics of a ton of colossi that never made it into the game, but I don't see them going back and adding extra content. They need that manpower for the Last Guardian and they were presumably cut for a reason. Ueda also doesn't seem like a director's cut/SE kind of guy so I doubt he'd do that but what do I know.

I'll jump on the excitement train as well, I remember playing SotC for hours straight just wandering around looking for fruit and lizards.

Holy crap, I might actually have to buy a physical PS3 game.

That'll be a first. But whatever, they're two of the best games of the last decade, I can't wait.

There were also videos of a game featuring the Ico boy and a posse of his friends hunting colossi, look up "project Nico" on youtube and I think you'll find em. SotC went through massive changes throughout development.

I'm more or less opposed to re-releases of last generations games on current consoles. There is so little new shit that appeal to me, feels like a cop out, but I understand why they'd do it (so they can promote and get extra exposure for The Last Guardian).

The problem is the PS2 handled SotC so sluggishly I'd think a ps3 version might ultimately lead to a far superior experience.

Surprise, surprise, suddenly SotC's framerate turns out to be bad. I recall many people claiming it wasn't all that atrocious back in the day, before these PS3 port rumours came along. I own both for the PS2 and SotC's performance is a fucking joke if you ask me. The game is a cruel joke.

Always put off playing these... I did play the demo for SotC and the gameplay was great but the framerate was a turnoff. If this is still just a rumor, I hope it does actually happen someday.

If you own a CRT SDTV, by all means play Ico. Much like the original Silent Hill, it sports lo-res charm which I don't think can be perfectly recaptured in high resolution. Moreover, technically it's nowhere near as broken as SotC.

Nice artsy games that are boring to play. I really shouldn't have bought into the hype. Nowadays, I'm more careful about people overhyping niche games.

agreed.

I was never bother by the low res look of Ico or the frame rate of SotC. It'll be interesting to see what they do - if they merely upscale the games to 1080p, then ... meh. Yes, i'd still get it and replay the games, but

Also - this really is the sort of thing people were calling for earlier in the PS3 life cycle - i can only assume this is a stop gap move akin to Wipeout HD which was -supposed- to be a stop gap prior to the "real" Wipeout (which looks like it will never come) because we've seen absolute zero of Last Guardian since the first showing.

Not sure what the hell is going on at the Sony studios - between LG and GT5 we may not see either until 2012 at this rate.

Technically, that's not entirely true since a few months ago we had a few interviews with/about Ueda pop-up on the net... But yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing more of the game. As soon as a new video pops up, I'll revive the thread I started a while back.

It's quite astonishing how many people seem to genuinely LIKE SotC. It very much became a poster child of boss-heavy games. I find this kind of shit:
Games built around bosses are hard to do, but if you do attempt them you have to go all out, as Wanda and the Colossus appears to be doing. Make them big, memorable and inventive in their means of dispatching you. To do otherwise, as Blood Will Tell unfortunately does, is like advertising a U2 gig by promising "all the songs you remember" and then getting them to play a set consisting mostly of nursery rhymes.
nothing short of infuriating. One more lesson that you should never-ever speak such things before the actual game comes out. I mean, Blood Will Tell is far from perfect and it does recycle certain bosses, but it's still the kind of game SotC desperately wants to be and miserably fails due to the technology. Varied. Entertainig. Off-the-wall etc.

I really really hope this is true.

I was playing SOTC yesterday, and was thinking "wow, this really needs GOWC treatement". If that actually happens, i'll be mighty pleased.

SOTC can be played in HD on your PC through PCSX2. Although it does require a powerful rig.

0.9.6 or some of the newer work-in-progress versions should be good. And I suggest waiting for 0.9.7 as it`s not that far off. And make sure you have a fast CPU; SOTC is a bitch to emulate. Some of PS2`s best looking games like Final Fantasy XII and Monster Hunter 2 manage to run at 120fps in 1080p even on relatively weak computers. SOTC isn`t one of them.

Oh, and since this is a shmup forum, it would be criminal not to mention how well Gradius V runs in PCSX2 and how amazing it looks in HD resolutions.
