Hello,
I recently picked up a PSU that I think will support the EXTRON Emotia if the DIN connector is modded with the proper link up. I wanted to check here first because the Amps are slightly higher, but I think that's OK. (I've heard that lower is what causes problems)
Official Extron PSU:
INPUT: 100-250V, 50-60Hz 0.9A
OUTPUT: +5V 3.0A, +12V 0.5A, -12V 0.2A
Unofficial PSU:
INPUT: 100-250V 50-60Hz 1.2A
OUTPUT: +5V 3.0A, +12V 2.0A, -12V 0.3A
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks!
EXTRON Emotia - Power Supply Question
Re: EXTRON Emotia - Power Supply Question
this will work fine!
Can you post a link to the PSU ? It isn't easy to find good (and halfway cheap) replacement PSUs for the Extron machines.

Re: EXTRON Emotia - Power Supply Question
Hi Fudoh,
I got it on eBay for $10, plus $13 shipping. Its actually quite a bit larger than the standard PSU, but its looks similar.

By the way, do you think this 5-Pin DIN will work?

(Its a MIDI cable) Here is a diagram:

I'd be taking this and splicing it into the PSU cable.
Thanks!

This worked.
There was an extra 5v lead, but just ignore it.

Re: EXTRON Emotia - Power Supply Question
I'm currently in the same boat as philexile, got a cheap emotia but now i need a PSU. after scouring ebay for a bit I found this which *looks* like it would do the trick (+5V 2A +12V 1.5A -12V 0.5A) but the price makes me >_<
so does anyone out there have a better solution, or perhaps even a spare emotia PSU I could take off their hands? Thanks!

Re: EXTRON Emotia - Power Supply Question
If you don't mind the aesthetics, you can use any PC power supply, AT or ATX. You can probably pick one up for a single $1 from your local craigslist. You just need to add your own cable from the PSU to the Emotia.
Re: EXTRON Emotia - Power Supply Question
not trusting my abilities to wire one myself
I picked up the one from the auction I linked above (he accepted an offer for half the list price, yay,) after which i noticed philexile's comment that lower amps to the emotia could cause problems. guess I'll see how everything shakes out come next week

Re: EXTRON Emotia - Power Supply Question
yeah, the 5V line seems quite weak compared to the original PSU. On the other hand Extron used those PSU on all kinds of machines and there's good chance that the Emotia doesn't actually need 3 amps on the 5V line.
