P.N.03 question.

Post by Dylan1CC »

....I really like it but cannot figure out how to do the energy drive attack. It says press the left or right side of the D pad and A simultaneously and then you will get lock ons. Hmmm. Not workin' for me.

Fun game so far, got it used at EB for $10.

Swan is Right, Left, A, actually. Assuming you're wearing a suit that can actually use that particular Drive.

OK, well I still am on the first level so I assume you have to earn lock ons then?

Not really; each suit comes with one Drive already though you can purchase one or two more.

If you're just on the first level the suit you've got should have Swan built in already, so it should just work.

Ah, I was doing left then right. Dur.

Works now. I am likin' this game the more I play it. Sure it's repetitive but nowhere near as bad as EGM and other reviews made it out to be.

ell it's the training missions that get repetitive, each level is like a couple dozen rooms and depending on the theme you're looking at the same 5 rooms repeating for the entire mission, plus if you're going for an all clear you end up with some back tracking too. the theme of the level changes depending where you are in the proper game but there's three or four levels (main levels) that it uses the same theme for training missions. now for shmuppers it's not so bad because the rooms are (i think its true for all of them) fully chainable with bonuses for no damage so we play for score and skill, where as most modern action games are completion based.

the main game it self is varied enough that it doesn't feel monotonous for the hour or two it takes to beat it straight through (well i wouldn't actually know my lack of skill meant i did the training missions to get more powerful suits)

You've gots to pull off the moves all smooth-like, as you would a Hadouken.

P.N.03's OK, but it's definitely overrated.

I don't think I'd call it overrated - it got lousy reviews in both the US and in Japan, and it got a pretty negative reception in both countries. It has some fans out there, but "overrated" makes it sound like a whole lot of people like it or something...

I've never heard of it being done, but then I've never heard of anyone really trying either.

I think after a certain amount of energy on the "Giraffe" is depleted, the battle automatically ends. Don't worry, you get to kick its ass later. :)

I was griping on the other thread about the boring back-tracking and the need to go through the trial missions multiple times to gain points to buy all the suits and energy drives to unlock the Blackbird Suit, which is needed to unlock the Papillon Suit. I've given up on trying for the Papillion; the thought of going through all the trial missions again makes me dizzy.

IMHO, many of the suits are pointless. Once I got the Ultra Fusion, that was it. The best thing I like about this game is Vanessa's ass and the boss battles(especially the one where you have to hide in the holes, and the last battle). Also the last boss destruction sequence oozes coolness. :)

I've recently started to play it again and I think it's a great game. I play the Japanese Version and without doing any trial mission, I've got the Papillon.
The Papillon is the way to go for score, as the Blackbird Drives are all too high end.
The game is definitely one of the best action games of this generation.

I go to a bunch of other message boards, and everyone there rides on P.N.03's cock like it was the Second Coming (no Moogs, this is not HOTN or D-Pad). In the hardcore wold of gaming, too many people praise this game...like, trying to force themselves to like it after so many bad reviews.

It's a good game, but nothing more. Not artistic or any of that non-sense, just a very straightforward game with some killer tunes (is anyone else reminded of Pioneer's Fist of the North Star music while listening to this game?).

Don't hate on something you can't understand. P.N.03 is genius and has been since day one. Just like I accept that most people will never be able to fathom the brilliance of P.N.03 you need to accept that you'll never be able to properly appreciate the game.

I can get the rhythm down to it and shoot off enemies like they were nothing, but it still doesn't make the game fun to me.

I like the game, but it's not a Fellini film or Dostoyevsky. It's a nifty little action game with some rigid controls and repetitive level design.

Who needs other message boards, we have people just like that right here!
