Removed scenes & concept art from various games...

Post by ST Dragon »

I always wondered why the following concept art never made it in the following games, as they looked very cool:

Half Life 2
I remember when I 1st saw this scene, I thought it would have been quite tough & challenging to fight and avoid these Hydra creatures.
I wish they had made it in the final version of Half Life 2.

Unreal 2
This scene were the marine is performing a space walk on an asteroid belt around a Red Giant Star is so cool! It’s a real pity they never included this stage in the final version of Unreal 2.
http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/1059/unreal23.jpg
Image

And is this a Boss of some kind, frying the Skaarj warrior just before fighting you?
http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/1507/unreal24.jpg
Image

And what is this jelly-fish alien thing? They would have looked great in a water stage, but as far as I remember, there was no true water world in Unreal 2. So where were these aliens supposed to have appeared in the 1st place?

http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/6867/unreal21.jpg

And did a smaller version of this appear in the final final game? It looks a bit silly imo.

Doom 3
There were various scenes removed from the final version of the game, for example:

I don’t remember this scene with the pinky demon immerging from the fiery inferno.

Image
http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/5240/doom306.jpg

Also did these guys actually appear in Doom3? I only remember them in the Expansion pack “Doom III - Resurrection of Evil”
http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/8443/doom311.jpg
Image

And these scenes in the Hell stage of Doom3?
http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/1252/doom303.jpg
Image
http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/1306/doom304.jpg
Imagehttp://img641.imageshack.us/img641/2263/doom305.jpg

What is this bird-demon dude?
http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/4060/doom309.jpg
Image
http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/8500/doom310.jpg

What ever happened to the Spider Master mind Boss & the lost souls?
http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/1218/doom302.jpg
Image
http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/6403/doom301.jpg
Image

And finally, I never understood why they removed the infamous “bathroom scene”?!

Prey
I have completed Prey, but I don’t remember any of these guys? Please, correct me if I’m wrong …

Quake 4
Over all I thought Quake 4 sucked, but it’s a real pity they never included these scenes in the final game:

This would have been an awesome boss. Just look at the batteries in the back, they’re actually tormented marines! That is so cool, in a sadistic, sick kind of way! ;)
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/6397/quake42.jpg
Image

I think these guys made it in the final game, but they removed the 2 torso batteries from the bottom. Pity… ;)
http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/544/quake45.jpg
Image

This Strogg-Tiger think, looks so fierce!
http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/2776/quake44.jpg
Image

The dispersal plant in the final game looked nothing as revolting or sick as this. Pity they didn’t do it like this in the final.
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/6375/quake47.jpg
Image

What is this mech?
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/3255/quake46.jpg
Image

Lol! This chap looks so miserable! ;) I wonder what he was replaced by?...
http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/4805/quake41.jpg
Image

This platform looks awesome. It would have been cool seeing this in motion.

So, any thoughts, opinions or answers concerning my queries, will be highly appreciated.
Also if any of you people have any more scenes or concept that didn’t make it in these games or others, feel free to post them here.

But most of all, I'm very curious about the Unreal 2 removed scenes...

Me too. All of these various games are first person shooters too.

Two of my favorites.

"Resident Evil 1.5"
http://residentevil.wikia.com/Resident_Evil_1.5

What got removed: pretty much the whole game got overhauled and turned into Resident Evil 2.

Resident Evil 4
What got removed: the damn thing got overhauled twice. A record even for RE games. Not much is known about version 1, which shows scenes in a plane, but there was a demo for version 2, and there were ghosts with scissors and chucky dolls.

Yeah, shame about the Half-Life 2 hydra, sort of. I found that screenshot again recently and was like "ha ha I remembers that!!11"

Also, you sure that first Unreal 2 screenshot was of Unreal 2? He lookalike a Master Chef.

The first picture I pulled down that had stuff that I recognize was of the resurrected rocket skeleton things. I think I saw those in DOOM III, maybe near the end or in RoE.

There is a hell of a lot of stuff here that simply didn't get into the final games.

Kind of a shame to think about all the awesome work that went into bland games. Why couldn't anybody make a game like the original Unreal anymore?

I remember seeing the trailer for that and it scaring my ass off! I still hold onto the thought of playing it one day.

I dunno if i really did like the unreal game. The idea that you were the only survivor of a prison ship was cool. I also liked the music and the sounds FX. dont really recall that much more of the game other than the alien crusifixitions.

Interesting, I always knew that RE4 had been overhauled but I never actually looked into the earlier versions. The whole "ghosts with scissors" and such sounds like more of a Devil May Cry thing to me, so maybe leaving that out was a good decision.

Speaking of Devil May Cry, Dante was originally supposed to be the son of the devil, rather than a heroic demon. Pops was supposed to royally whip your ass during a boss fight, then the game would jump centuries ahead and you'd play as an older and stronger Dante.

Youtube vid of the RE4 beta UFO mentioned.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_5kwX0LZAc

I'd would have bought it, I wanna light evil dolls on fire!

And here's the early Resident Evil 2 trailer from the first Playstation Underground disc.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o40SAmUbGEU

Back when Sony was awesome and used to send me shit in the mail they sent me the first underground disc. The discs had a lot of hidden content on them so we'd mash the buttons to see what we could find. We found this video and it scared our asses off! Almost as much as the Ginuwine "My Pony" video, which is also hidden on the disc. I still believe that someone has RE 1.5 and one day we'll be lucky enough to play it.

As far as I know none of these were added as unlockables in their respective games.
However the Hydra from Half Life 2 was added in a mod (or so I've heard)

Here is what they look like in motion from the Beta:

I would still like to know what happened to that space-walk scene on the asteroid field around the red giant in Unreal 2.

The first time I ran into something like this was when I received Super Mario Bros. 3 for my 7th birthday and saw the screenshot on the back of the box that showed a level with green grass and the red flying beetles. Never found anything like it in the whole game.

I'm a big fan of the whole Soul Reaver series, and while I'm currently too lazy to look up the exact fansite with all the info, there was an enormous amount of stuff cut out of the first game due to time and space constraints--weapons, bosses, and entire levels, leaving some rather jagged edges in the game, so to speak, when you got to some of the situations that had been modified. This is one of those games where you could dig through and access a lot of the resources with a Gameshark or a little PC-side hacking.

Of course, we can't forget Goldeneye 007 and its plethora of cuts and changes. The Citadel level, the island off the Dam, multiple Bonds in multiplayer--the game's a goldmine for cut content, and a lot of fun to fool around with using a Gameshark.

Basically every weapon shown on the box isn't in the final game. The KF7 looks like a remote control or a taser

Thanks for sharing this, I had not known about it until now.
Here is a site with all the Mega Man X removed content.
It looks as if X1 had the most removed from it.

That "White City" stage looks interesting:

But why did they call it "white city", it doesn't look too white too me ;)

And yet another article with a Megaman X preview from Gamepro August 91:
